According to the Joint Staff of the French Armed Forces on March 19, the French maritime aviation patrol aircraft Atlantique 2 was "attacked" by the Russian air defense system during a planned mission to monitor the Baltic Sea.
The incident occurred as the French aircraft was patrolling international airspace as part of NATO's efforts to protect critical maritime infrastructure in the region. French officials said a Russian naval unit, likely a warship, used fire control radar to illuminate the aircraft, a tactic typically associated with missile guidance.
