MH-47G Block II |
Boeing Defense has announced a contract with USASOAC (US Army Special Operations Aviation Command) in the amount of 240 million dollars for the restoration of five additional MH-47G Block II Chinook helicopters. This decision highlights the Army's strategy of maintaining technological leadership in high-risk missions.
As part of the agreement, Boeing will carry out a deep modernization of five helicopters, including:
- Fuselage reinforcement for increased survivability;
- Recycling of fuel tanks to increase flight range;
- Installation of digital control systems compatible with modern network-centric technologies.
These improvements will allow the MH-47G Block II to operate more effectively in difficult conditions, including mountainous areas and areas with high air defense density.
The MH-47G Block II is a key element of special operations support, capable of transporting up to 22 military personnel or 10.8 tons of cargo on an external sling. The contract expands the USASOAC fleet to 51 units of this type, which strengthens the global mobility of the army.
Deliveries of the upgraded helicopters will begin in 2027, and the full completion of the fleet renewal program is scheduled for 2030. This will provide the US army with technological superiority in a confrontation with equal opponents, where speed and accuracy are critically important.
