Raytheon successfully tested the Coyote LE SR drone: helicopter launch opens up new possibilities

Coyote LE SR

Raytheon (part of RTX Corporation) conducted the first recorded launch of the unmanned aerial system (UAS) Coyote LE SR from a helicopter. The tests, which took place at the Nine Mile Training Center, demonstrated the enhanced operational capabilities of the Coyote family, designed to combat drones and perform reconnaissance missions.

The new modification Coyote LE SR belongs to the category "Launch Effects" (Launch Effects) — compact UAVs that can be deployed from air, land or sea platforms. This variant is equipped with a non-kinetic warhead, which makes it possible to neutralize threats without the risk of collateral damage. As noted in the Raytheon materials, the system is capable of operating both offline and as part of swarms, coordinating attacks through the network.

Launching from a helicopter highlights the flexibility of the Coyote LE SR. Previously, similar systems were tested to intercept drones as part of the Pentagon's programs, including the use against a "swarm" of enemy UAVs. In 2024, the US Army has already purchased thousands of such devices to counter air threats.

The tests at Nine Mile strengthen Raytheon's position as a leader in the development of multifunctional UAS. Coyote LE SR can be used for:

- Fighting small drones in combat zones;

- Intelligence and surveillance;

- Electronic warfare.
