Romania buys an Iron Dome from Israel to protect against drones and missiles

 Iron Dome air defense system

The situation is escalating, and Romania clearly does not want to sit idly by. The country's Defense minister Ionuc Mostianu has officially announced that Romania is going to buy the legendary Iron Dome air defense system from Israel. The contract is planned to be signed in the fall of 2025, which means that the country will soon have serious protection against drones, mines and missiles.

What is the "Iron Dome"?

In short, it is a mobile air defense system that can shoot down shells, mines, cruise missiles and even kamikaze drones. It operates at a distance of 4 to 70 km, so it can cover both a city and a military base or port.

Each battery consists of several launchers with Tamir missiles, an EL/M-2084 radar and a central control unit. In general, everything is grown-up — and most importantly, it works!

Why the Iron Dome?

— High efficiency: yes, sometimes it misses, but on average it intercepts about 90% of targets — especially those that fly slowly and predictably, such as drones.

— Relevance: considering that Ukraine is next to Romania, where Russia is actively using drones to attack southern ports, border protection has become vital. For example, in the area of the Sulinsky girl, it will be possible to install such complexes and cover the Odessa infrastructure.

— European Championship: Romania may become the first European country to adopt this system. This is not just an import, it is an application for a leadership role in security issues.

And what's next?

After signing the contract, deliveries will begin, and then the systems will be deployed throughout the country. At the same time, the Iron Dome does not stand still — it is constantly being upgraded so that it can better cope with new threats such as modern UAVs and cruise missiles.

It is also part of a larger strategy to create a multi—layered air defense system that will work together with other countries. For example, in the framework of the European initiative "Sky Shield" (ESSI) and in conjunction with NATO .

In general, Romania relies on reliable protection and modern technologies. If everything goes according to plan, then in a couple of years the country will become noticeably more confident against the background of growing threats.

Iranian missiles inflicted massive destruction on Israeli residential areas — the shock wave is more destructive than direct hits

Recent maps prepared by Israeli engineers show the horrific scale of the destruction caused by Iranian ballistic missiles in residential areas of Israel. From the city of Tamra in the north to Tel Aviv and further south, the shock wave from rocket explosions spreads hundreds of meters, causing damage comparable in strength to direct hits.

Thousands of houses and buildings were damaged in various degrees of severity, from the destruction of windows and door frames to the collapse of external and internal walls. Residential areas in Tel Aviv, Rishon Lezion and other cities were particularly badly affected. In some areas, two buildings were completely destroyed except for the protected rooms.

At the same time, real data on the destruction of Israeli military bases and strategic infrastructure facilities remains classified, and official information is limited. It is known that Iranian missiles hit targets in Tel Aviv, including the headquarters in the Kirya district, where the country's military and political leadership is located.

The Israeli Iron Dome air defense system was able to intercept a significant portion of the missiles, but not all threats were neutralized. Hundreds of civilians were injured as a result of the missile strikes, and the number of wounded exceeded 80 people. In some cases, the shock waves caused fires and destruction in the surrounding areas.

The escalation of the conflict was linked to mutual strikes by Israel and Iran: Israel carried out airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and military bases, and Iran responded with massive rocket volleys. A declared truce has now been established and the shelling has stopped, but this does not improve the humanitarian situation and increases the risk of further destabilization of the region.

Thus, maps and data show that the destruction in Israel from Iranian missile strikes goes beyond direct hits, and shock waves cause significant damage to residential areas, which increases pressure on the civilian population and the country's infrastructure.

Effectiveness of Israeli air defense in the war with Iran: results and challenges

The Israeli air defense system has shown mixed results during the 13-day war with Iran. According to official data, Iran launched 631 rockets, of which about 500 reached Israeli airspace. Israeli and American air defense systems fired 514 interceptors, shooting down 221 missiles, which gives a ratio of about two anti-aircraft guided missiles to one Iranian ballistic missile.

The Israeli Hetz-2, Hetz-3, David's Sling (Iron Dome) complexes, as well as the American THAAD, SM-6 and SM-3 systems were used to repel the attacks. Despite this, about 243 Iranian munitions landed in the desert or unpopulated areas, including important military bases, and 36 rockets hit targets, causing damage to residential areas — more than 2,300 apartments in 240 buildings were damaged.

However, the effectiveness of Israeli air defense decreased from the initial 90% to about 65% in the last days of the conflict, which is attributed to Iran's use of more modern and faster missiles that give air defense systems less time to intercept — the warning is received in 6-7 minutes instead of the previous 10-11. Iran also uses combined attack tactics using cheap drones and false targets that distract Israeli air defenses, allowing missiles to break through the layered defenses.

In addition, the high consumption of expensive Hetz and David's Sling interceptors raises questions about the long-term sustainability of the Israeli air defense system, given its limited production capabilities. Military censorship in Israel limits the full transparency of the damage, but the data indicates significant destruction and civilian casualties.

In general, despite high-tech systems and US assistance, Israel has not been able to completely neutralize the missile strikes of Iran, which has retained significant missile capabilities and continues to improve its means of destruction. Under these circumstances, Israel is considering a proactive strategy, but the current truce is probably just a respite before the next phase of the conflict.

Iran launches Fattah-1 hypersonic missile at Israel: a new era in ballistic technology

Fattah-1

Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, Tehran has demonstrated a new achievement of its defense industry — the Fattah-1 hypersonic missile, fired directly at Israeli territory. This event was an important step in the development of Iranian military technology and raised concerns among a number of countries, especially those with experience in dealing with regional threats.

The Fattah-1 missile is a medium-range hypersonic weapon designed specifically to overcome modern missile defense systems such as the Israeli Iron Dome and Arrow. Its length is 12 meters, and the maximum flight range is up to 1400 kilometers, which allows it to hit targets at a considerable distance from the territory of Iran.

A special feature of the Fattah-1 is its equipment with a hypersonic gliding warhead (HGV) capable of speeds up to 17,900 km/h — almost  Mach 15. Such speed and maneuverability make intercepting a missile an extremely difficult task even for the most advanced missile defense systems.

The rocket is powered by a single-stage solid-fuel engine, which ensures rapid launch readiness and reduces dependence on complex infrastructure. A warhead weighing 200 kg of explosives is installed on board, which can be adapted to various types of targets, from stationary objects to mobile strategic hubs.

The telling moment was not only the test itself or the use of the system, but also the fact that Iran made a statement about its ability to bypass the most advanced air and missile defense technologies. This raises new questions for the international community regarding the effectiveness of current security systems and the possible proliferation of hypersonic technologies.

Although experts still disagree about the actual combat effectiveness of the Fattah-1, the very fact of its use indicates that hypersonic weapons are becoming an increasingly accessible and dangerous element of the global military landscape.

Unknown artificial intelligence systems have hacked Israel's air defense and missile defense systems — a new level of war with Iran

According to several sources, some of Israel's air defense and missile defense systems have been "hacked" by unknown artificial intelligence systems. This fact indicates a fundamental paradigm shift in the conduct of hostilities between Israel and Iran, where advanced quantum technologies and AI play a key role.

Iranian experts and scientists claim that they have managed to penetrate Israel's multi-level air defense systems, including the Iron Dome and other American complexes, as confirmed by successful ballistic and hypersonic missile strikes against Israeli targets. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims that with the help of new methods they have disoriented the Israeli air defense systems, forcing them to attack each other, which led to a decrease in the effectiveness of defense.

The use of quantum computing and artificial intelligence in cyber warfare allows Iran to significantly increase the effectiveness of its attacks and bypass traditional air defense systems. This changes the rules of the game, taking the conflict to a qualitatively new level, where information technology and cyber weapons are becoming a decisive factor.

Israel is facing serious challenges in ensuring the security of its airspace and needs to update and adapt its defense systems to the new threats posed by Iran and its allies.

Thus, the modern war between Israel and Iran is increasingly becoming a high-tech confrontation using advanced quantum and AI systems, which requires new approaches to defense and combat strategies.

Analysts note Israel's critical problems in the conflict with Iran: resources are exhausted, prospects are bleak

The modern conflict between Israel and Iran has reached a critical point, and according to a number of analysts and sources, the goals of the Israeli operation to strike Iran have not been achieved, and the campaign itself has failed. Israel, despite powerful airstrikes and the use of advanced technologies, is not ready to wage a long and intense conflict with Iran, which, on the contrary, is ready for a protracted war.

According to information from various sources, Israel is already experiencing a serious shortage of resources and capabilities to continue fighting. In conditions of high intensity of hostilities and large-scale retaliatory strikes by Iran, Israel will be able to withstand the conflict for no more than one month. After that, the country risks completely exhausting its military and economic reserves.

Iran, despite the attacks on its nuclear and military facilities, has managed to maintain significant military and strategic potential. Moreover, Iranian missile attacks on Israel's critical infrastructure continue to cause serious damage, while the Israeli Iron Dome air defense system is unable to intercept all missiles, resulting in destruction and loss of life.

In the current situation, Israel has asked Russia to help end the conflict with Iran, since the state has practically no resources of its own to continue the military campaign. At the same time, the actions of the "internal opposition and resistance" in Iran, which could weaken the regime, are paralyzed and practically neutralized, according to sources, which further complicates Israel's task.

Experts note that if the conflict continues at its current pace and intensity, Israel will not be able to hold out for more than 30 days, which calls into question the country's future strategy and security in the long term.

Thus, despite powerful strikes and attempts to inflict strategic damage on Iran, Israel faces serious challenges and risks, and Iran retains the ability to continue the conflict, which makes the situation extremely tense and unpredictable.

Iron Dome for the USA: a dream or an illusion?

Operation of the Israeli Iron Dome air defense system

The idea of creating an American version of Israel's Iron Dome has faced serious criticism from defense industry experts. At the IDEX exhibition taking place these days, experts expressed a unanimous opinion about the ineffectiveness of such a system against modern missile threats.

The very fact that the Trump administration has decided to adopt Israel's successful technology speaks to the recognition of its effectiveness at the level of short-range tactical missiles. However, the attempt to scale this concept to the level of protecting entire continents from strategic missiles raises many questions.

The main arguments against this idea are as follows:

1. The difference in tasks is that the Israeli system is designed to intercept short- and medium-range missiles, while the American armed Forces need to counter intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), hypersonic complexes and new generations of cruise missiles.

2. The scale of the territory - the protection of a small state like Israel is radically different from the need to cover the vast expanses of North America or Europe.

3. The economic component - the cost of intercepting one missile significantly exceeds the price of the target missile itself, which makes the system economically unprofitable in conditions of a massive strike.

4. Technological limitations - existing Iron Dome technologies are not adapted to work with hypersonic objects and ICBMs.

At the same time, it is worth noting that President Trump's decision to introduce such a system has its own rational grounds. Modern threats really require new approaches in the protection of airspace. However, copying the Israeli experience without taking into account the specifics of American realities can lead to the creation of an expensive but insufficiently effective system.

Perhaps a more productive way would be to develop our own missile defense technologies that take into account the specifics of modern threats and the protection of large territories. This could include the integration of various levels of protection, from atmospheric interceptor systems to ground-based laser defense mechanisms.

Thus, although the idea of using the experience of the Iron Dome deserves attention, its practical implementation requires serious refinement and adaptation to specific application conditions. The question remains open, and further developments will show whether the American version of the system will be able to overcome all technical and economic obstacles on the way to full functioning.

For the Pentagon, this is another example of how important it is to find the right balance between borrowing foreign technologies and developing its own innovative defense solutions.
