The Executive Office of Unmanned and Small Combat Vehicle Programs (PEO USC) has announced the successful demonstration of eight prototypes of small unmanned surface vehicles (sUSV) operating with minimal human involvement. The SUSVS were equipped with the Navy's advanced Leviathan software package, which combines a set of capabilities within a single autonomous management structure.
Demonstration Details
- Leviathan Software Package: Includes the Autonomy Baseline Library (ABL), Common Control System (CCS), Automatic Target Recognition (ATR), and perception tools.
- ABL: The first software for autonomy with a fully open architecture that complies with the Navy's Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA) 6.0 standard.
- Objectives: To demonstrate the capabilities of sUSV within operational fleets, including reconnaissance, patrolling and electronic warfare.
The testing conducted by the Navy's Unmanned Maritime Systems (PMS 406) and Littoral Combat Ship Mission Modules (PMS 420) programs marks a step forward in integrating unmanned platforms into operational fleets. This highlights the U.S. Navy's ability to use autonomous systems to perform complex tasks with minimal human involvement.
