Lockheed Martin Expands Alabama Plant to Produce New Ballistic Interceptors

Lockheed Martin has decided to significantly expand its missile assembly facility on the territory of the old World War II military Air Corps in northern Alabama. Sarah Reeves, the company's vice president for the Next Generation Interceptor project and space programs, told the publication AL.com That a large factory with an area of about 88,000 square feet is being built is about like an entire football field!

It is planned to complete the construction by the beginning of next year. This facility will assemble the latest long—range ballistic missile interceptors called the Next Generation Interceptor, which is a defensive weapon for intercepting and destroying dangerous missiles in the air before they can reach their targets.

Such an expansion is important for improving the country's defense capability, and the Cortland site itself is a convenient historical place where military aircraft used to be based. Modern missiles will now be built at this site to help protect the United States and its allies from missile threats.

The US Air Force is preparing to use a complete replica of the Chinese HQ-22 anti-aircraft missile system for training

The US military will soon be able to train using a realistic replica of the Chinese HQ-22 anti-aircraft missile system. This training mockup was created by Torch Technologies in Huntsville, Alabama. It accurately mimics the appearance, radar signature, and behavior of real Chinese air defenses, which is very important for training pilots and operators in real combat conditions.

Why is this necessary? In modern conflicts, enemies often use such advanced air defenses to shoot down planes and drones. Therefore, it is very useful for our troops to know how to recognize and effectively counter these threats. Such surrogate training goals help to work out protection against complex anti-aircraft systems without risking real equipment and without endangering living people.

By the way, the HQ-22 itself is a Chinese medium— and long-range anti-aircraft system with a range of up to 150-170 km and a target height of up to 27 km. It is capable of simultaneously launching missiles at multiple targets and is protected from electronic interference.

Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin want to build large-scale missile production in Europe together

The German company Rheinmetall and the American Lockheed Martin are planning to create a joint venture aimed at establishing large—scale production of missiles directly in Europe. Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger spoke about this in detail during a conference call on the results of the first quarter of 2025. He confirmed that Rheinmetall is going to hold a controlling stake in this new joint business.

The idea is to create a serious European center for the production of advanced missile systems in order to ensure stable supplies and not depend on external factors. Such an enterprise will help accelerate production, improve quality and strengthen Europe's defense capability in the face of growing threats.

Papperger noted that cooperation with Lockheed Martin is an important step, because the American partner has extensive experience and technology in the field of missile weapons. By combining resources and knowledge, companies will be able to work faster and more efficiently, creating modern solutions for NATO and partner countries.

Rheinmetall will retain control over the joint venture, which will allow it to direct the development of the project in line with the interests of European countries and maintain a high level of production. The launch of such a concern is part of Rheinmetall's global strategy to strengthen defense technologies and create reliable arms supply chains in Europe.

All this is happening against the background of an increasing demand for modern missile systems that require manufacturers to be highly technologically advanced and flexible. The Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin joint venture should become a key player in the market, capable of meeting European security needs for many years to come.

Japan and 9 countries train together to defend space: international space defense exercises in Australia

The Japan Air Self-Defense Forces took part in a large international command and staff training on space defense, which took place in Australia. It was attended by representatives of 10 countries, all with the common goal of strengthening friendship and cooperation in protecting space from threats.

The main idea of these exercises is to work out a joint response to any problems in space that may disrupt the operation of satellites, communications and navigation. During the training, the countries exchanged experiences and identified all the weaknesses in order to work as a single mechanism in the face of a real threat.

This is a very important event for Japan, because now space has become very complex and even dangerous — there are many satellites, and there is a risk that someone may use space for military or cyber purposes. By working together with other countries, solutions can be found and defended faster.

During the exercises, they worked out models of real threats: how to disrupt communications, how to protect themselves from cyber attacks on satellite control. Experts from various fields worked with the participants, from space surveillance to system protection.

Such cooperation is necessary now, because a lot depends on satellites in the army and in civilian life. The better countries are friends and help each other, the safer space and, in general, the planet becomes.

For Japan, participating in such events is a way to gain valuable experience working together and show everyone that it is a serious player in global security and is ready to protect our common interests together with its allies.

Denmark buys 129 Patria armored personnel carriers — deliveries began in 2025

Patria

Denmark is not sitting idly by and is actively modernizing its army. Recently, the country's Ministry of Defense announced a deal with the Finnish company Patria to supply 129 XA-300-series armored personnel carriers at once. This is a serious order — the first cars have already started arriving this year, and everything should be fully completed by the end of 2026. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed, but it is said that it is "hundreds of millions of euros."

Why is it so urgent?

It's all about the deteriorating situation in Europe, especially after the events in Ukraine and the rising tensions in the Baltic region. Because of this, Copenhagen has launched an emergency defense enhancement program. According to Defense Minister Trine Bramsen, the new armored cars will give the Danish troops the necessary mobility and protection to quickly transfer equipment between the islands and help NATO in the Baltic.

What is special about these APCs?

These are not just armored personnel carriers — they are real new generation vehicles.:

- Enhanced protection against mines and homing ammunition

- 360-degree all-round view cameras

- Modular design — you can quickly change the configuration: from troop transport to a medical center or command center

First of all, the equipment is planned to be transferred to a new mechanized brigade, which is being formed at the base of the garrison in Holstebro.

Production and service are also in Denmark

The Finnish company Patria has agreed to localize part of the production in Denmark itself — they will make armored hulls and install communication systems. This will create up to 200 new jobs for qualified specialists.

In addition, maintenance and deep modernization of equipment will be carried out on the territory of the FFI (Institute for Defense Research) in Copenhagen — that is, all logistics will be organized locally.
