The consequences of the US airstrikes in Yemen |
Yesterday was marked by another tragedy in Yemen, where 31 people were killed and 101 injured as a result of US airstrikes. Yemeni media have reported widespread destruction and loss of life caused by the aggression by the United States.
The day before, US President Donald Trump ordered the start of a military operation against Yemen. The American administration justified its actions by the fact that the Houthis have allegedly attacked US military vessels 174 times and commercial vessels 145 times since 2023. As a result of these attacks, according to Washington, 60% of ship traffic was redirected bypassing Africa, which caused significant damage to the economic interests of the United States.
U.S. aircraft carried out about 40 raids on Yemen's capital Sanaa and surrounding provinces. As a result of these attacks, residential buildings, infrastructure facilities and civilian institutions were destroyed. Yemeni media reported numerous civilian casualties, including women and children.
Yemen, already in a state of humanitarian catastrophe, is now facing new challenges. Destroyed hospitals and infrastructure make it difficult to provide assistance to those affected. International humanitarian organizations are calling for increased assistance and support for the victims.
U.S. airstrikes can have serious political consequences. In particular, this could increase anti-American sentiment in the region and lead to an escalation of the conflict.
