VCR 8x8 Dragon |
After many years of development and testing, the Spanish Army is finally receiving its first wheeled combat vehicles (VCR), the VCR 8x8 Dragon. This is a significant event for the country's armed forces, made possible by the efforts of an industrial consortium that includes Indra.
Indra, one of the key companies involved in the project, has confirmed that the first eleven units of the VCR 8x8 Dragon will be delivered in the coming weeks. This announcement follows the start of the acceptance testing phase, which started about a month ago.
The VCR 8x8 Dragon vehicles are modern wheeled combat platforms designed to perform a wide range of tasks, including reconnaissance, patrolling and combat operations. They have high mobility, security, and firepower, making them ideal for use in a variety of environments and scenarios.
Technical specifications and features
The VCR 8x8 Dragon has a high degree of protection, capable of countering threats such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The vehicle has modular armor that protects against 14.5mm armor-piercing bullets, and the front of the vehicle is protected from 30 mm armor-piercing bullets within a 30-degree sector. The combat weight of the vehicle is 30 tons, and the 550 hp MTU 6V199 TE21 engine combined with the ZF 7HP 902 7-speed automatic transmission ensures high mobility.
In addition, the VCR 8x8 Dragon is equipped with advanced electronic systems. Indra has provided the Maestre system for combat missions for this vehicle, which is the “brain” of the combat vehicle and integrates advanced communication, situation awareness and fire control systems. These systems will significantly increase the effectiveness of the combat vehicle in the difficult conditions of the modern battlefield.
The VCR 8x8 Dragon project is an important step in the modernization of the Spanish army. These vehicles will replace outdated models of equipment and significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the units. The introduction of new technologies and equipment will allow the army to perform its tasks more efficiently and adapt to modern challenges.
The delivery of the first eleven units of the VCR 8x8 Dragon is just the beginning. In the future, it is planned to supply additional vehicles, which will fully equip the necessary units and ensure their high combat capability.
Indra and other members of the industrial consortium continue to work on improving and improving the VCR 8x8 Dragon machines. There is still a lot of work ahead, but the first results are already encouraging. The Spanish army is receiving modern and reliable combat vehicles, which will become an important element of its combat potential.
