The US Center for Countermeasures (CCM) has published new details about the testing of a high-energy laser with integrated optical blinding and Surveillance System (HELIOS), a directed energy weapon (DE) installed on the USS Preble (DDG 88) Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.The annual report, published in January 2025, describes the Navy's demonstration of the HELIOS system aboard the USS Preble, during which its functionality, performance, and ability to engage unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were tested.According to the report: "CCM supported the Navy's demonstration on the USS Preble (DDG 88) to test and validate the functionality, performance, and capabilities of the HEL with an integrated optical blinding and surveillance system against an unmanned aerial vehicle. CCM has collected collision images to support system performance evaluation."
