Russia and the United States began closed-door talks in Riyadh: without shaking hands, but with high expectations

Negotiations between representatives of Russia and the United States have begun in Riyadh. The meeting of the delegates began in the presence of the press, without preliminary words and handshakes.

The delegations of Russia and the United States met at the palace of the royal family. Russia is represented at the talks by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. On the part of the United States, three negotiators are Mike Waltz, Assistant to President Donald Trump for National Security, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Stephen Witkoff, the American leader's special envoy for the Middle East. Representatives of Saudi Arabia are also at the table.

Ahead of the talks, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), who also arrived in Riyadh, said that progress in negotiations between Russia and the United States is possible in the next 2-3 months. Dmitriev also told reporters at The New York Times that Russia would seek to restore economic cooperation with the United States. He also predicted the return of American oil companies, which, according to him, "conducted a very successful business in Russia."

In addition, Dmitriev stressed that the American business has lost more than $ 300 billion due to the fact that it left the Russian market.
