The Apocalyptic map: How a nuclear attack could wipe out 75% of the U.S. population

A new study conducted by the Halcyon Maps project reveals the shocking reality of the possible consequences of a large-scale nuclear attack on the United States. According to the data presented in the interactive map, up to 250 million people — or about 75% of the country's population — may die as a result of the explosion and subsequent exposure to radioactive fallout. This scenario resembles a hypothetical Thanos flick from the Marvel cinematic universe, but in this case we are talking about scientifically sound data based on information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The Halcyon Maps project used sophisticated models to analyze the potential consequences of a nuclear strike. The map is based on FEMA data, which includes:

1. Explosion radius: Calculations show how far the shock wave will spread from the epicenter of a nuclear explosion.

2. Fallout patterns: The map shows how radiation will spread across the country, taking into account wind direction and other meteorological factors.

3. Measurements of radiation exposure: Zones with varying degrees of danger to human health have been identified.

4. Population density: Demographic data was taken into account to estimate the number of victims in different regions.

The map allows you to visually see which parts of the country will be the most vulnerable, as well as how radiation will move through the territories, leaving a devastating trail.

Key findings of the study:

- Megacities as primary targets: High-density cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and Washington, D.C., will be high-priority targets. Their huge number of inhabitants will make these regions the most vulnerable to massive human losses.

- The spread of radiation: Radioactive fallout can be transported hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter of an explosion, turning even remote areas into high-risk areas. For example, winds can carry radiation into agricultural areas, leading to contamination of food supplies and water sources.

- Long-lasting effects: In addition to immediate casualties, survivors will face long-term challenges such as cancer, genetic mutations, and lack of food and medical care.

Especially alarming is the possibility of a "nuclear winter", a climatic phenomenon caused by the release of huge amounts of dust and smoke into the atmosphere. This can lead to lower temperatures, less sunlight, and the destruction of ecosystems not only in the United States, but around the world. The consequences of such a disaster will be cross-border, affecting billions of people regardless of their geographical location.

Although the likelihood of a full-scale nuclear war remains relatively low due to international agreements and arms control systems, the risk never completely disappears. Studies like the one conducted by the Halcyon Maps project serve as a reminder of the importance of:

1. Global disarmament: The need to further reduce nuclear arsenals and strengthen non-proliferation arrangements.

2. Public education: People need to know how to act in case of an emergency to minimize the risks to themselves and their families.

3. Strengthening civil protection: Investments in early warning systems, bunkers, and evacuation programs can save the lives of millions of people.

The Halcyon Maps provides a disturbing illustration of the cost of a nuclear confrontation. Although this scenario seems fantastic, it is based on real data and scientific models. He stresses the importance of maintaining peace, dialogue between countries and taking measures to reduce the nuclear threat. No one wants to see this forecast in action, but preparing for the worst—case scenario is part of every State's responsibility to its population and all of humanity.
