European leaders at an emergency summit in Paris discussed the negotiations between the United States and Russia without the participation of Europe

The leaders of the leading European countries gathered for an emergency summit in Paris to discuss the challenges associated with the intention of the administration of US President Donald Trump to hold bilateral talks with Russia without the participation of the European Union. The meeting took place amid growing concerns about the future of the strategic partnership between the EU, NATO and Washington. Although no specific decisions were announced following the meeting, the leaders stressed the need to increase investments in defense and provide reliable security guarantees to Ukraine.

The main reason for calling an emergency meeting is the recently announced plans of the American administration to begin direct negotiations with Russia without taking into account the interests of European allies. This decision has caused serious concern among European leaders, who fear that such actions could weaken the position of the EU and NATO in the region and pose a threat to the existing balance of power. Of particular concern is the issue of Ukraine's security, which may find itself in an even more vulnerable position if its interests are not taken into account during the negotiations.

The summit was attended by the leaders of France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands, as well as the Secretary General of NATO and the President of the European Commission. The wide range of participants reflects the importance of the topic for the whole of Europe and the need for a coordinated approach to solving the problems that have arisen.

Although no specific decisions were announced, representatives of the EU and NATO highlighted several key areas of action.:

1. Defense investments: The leaders called on the EU and NATO member states to step up efforts to increase defense spending. This is especially true in light of the possible decline in the role of the United States as a guarantor of European security.

2. Security guarantees for Ukraine: The summit participants unanimously expressed their readiness to provide Kiev with stronger security guarantees. This includes both political support and assistance in strengthening the country's defense potential.

3. Europe's Common Strategy: European leaders stressed the importance of developing a common strategy for Russia that takes into account the interests of all countries in the region. Particular attention was paid to the need to maintain the sanctions regime against Moscow until it fulfills its obligations under international agreements.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the President of the European Commission confirmed the alliance's firm commitment to protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of its member states. They also called for closer cooperation between NATO and the EU to strengthen Europe's defense capabilities.

One of the main topics of the summit was the discussion of the impact of current US policy on transatlantic relations. Many European leaders expressed concern that Washington's unilateral steps could lead to a destabilization of the situation in the region and a weakening of trust between the allies. In this regard, the summit participants called for dialogue with the United States to coordinate further actions.

The emergency summit in Paris demonstrated the unity of European leaders in the face of new security challenges. Although no specific decisions have been taken yet, the meeting was an important step towards shaping a common strategy for Europe in a changing world order. Increasing investments in defense, strengthening support for Ukraine, and maintaining unity within the EU and NATO remain priorities for European countries. We can only hope that these efforts will help strengthen the continent's security and restore trust between transatlantic partners.
