The inauguration of the 47th President of the United States took place in a historic ceremony. This was the second inauguration for Donald Trump; he previously served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021.
Trump started his day by attending a service at the historic St. John's Church on Lafayette Square in Washington. The ceremony in the rotunda took place at noon local time. Trump and Vance said the words of the oath with their hands on the Bible, as the ceremony allowed the use of other books as well.
This time, Trump used two books: a personal Bible given to him by his mother in 1955, as well as the historic Lincoln Bible, a velvet-bound edition that U.S. President Abraham Lincoln used during his inauguration in 1861.
Vance also used his Bible to bring to the ceremony a family heirloom that belonged to his maternal great-grandmother.
