Deadly Fire at Turkish Ski Resort Hotel Claims at Least 66 Lives

At least 66 people have died as a result of a fire that engulfed a hotel in a popular Turkish ski resort. Some of them jumped out of windows in a desperate attempt to escape. The fire broke out in the 12-story wooden Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu at 03:27 local time (00:27 GMT) during the height of the holiday season, when 234 people were staying there.

The initial death toll of 10 people was significantly increased within hours of the fire by the Turkish Interior Ministry. At least two people died trying to jump to safety. The fire was extinguished after 12 hours. Four people were arrested, including the owner, the Justice Minister said.
