Trump Orders Declassification of JFK, RFK, and MLK Assassination Files

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a significant move towards transparency, former U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the declassification of government documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. This decision, reported by several news outlets on Thursday, fulfills Trump's earlier promise to release information about these high-profile historical murders.

According to the presidential decree, the Director of National Intelligence has been instructed to prepare a plan for the "full and comprehensive disclosure" of documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy within 15 days. Additionally, a plan for the disclosure of documents on the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King must be prepared within 45 days.

The assassinations of President Kennedy in 1963, his brother Robert Kennedy in 1968, and Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 have long been subjects of controversy and speculation in the United States. Despite numerous investigations and theories, many questions surrounding these events remain unanswered, fueling ongoing public interest and debate.

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) holds approximately five million records related to the assassination of President Kennedy. In the 1990s, the federal government mandated the release of these records to the public by October 2017, with the President retaining the authority to issue exclusion orders. However, between 3,000 and 4,000 documents have yet to be made public, adding to the anticipation surrounding Trump's declassification order.

"The declassification of these files is a crucial step towards shedding light on these pivotal moments in our nation's history," said a spokesperson for the National Archives. "We are committed to ensuring that the American people have access to these important records, which can help provide a more complete understanding of these events."

The release of these documents is expected to offer new insights into the assassinations and potentially address some of the long-standing questions and conspiracy theories that have persisted for decades. By making these records publicly available, the government aims to enhance transparency and foster a more informed public discourse on these historical events.

"President Trump's decision to declassify these files demonstrates his commitment to transparency and accountability," said a White House official. "By releasing these documents, we hope to provide the American people with a more comprehensive understanding of these tragic events and the circumstances surrounding them."

As the declassification process unfolds, the public and historians alike eagerly await the release of these documents, which may offer new perspectives and potentially reshape our understanding of these seminal moments in American history. The declassification of the JFK, RFK, and MLK assassination files represents a significant step towards greater transparency and a more complete historical record.
