Tulsi Gabbard, one of President Donald Trump's most controversial foreign secretary nominees, was confirmed as Director of National Intelligence in a landslide vote in the Senate on Wednesday.
The former Democratic congresswoman was approved to oversee U.S. intelligence agencies by a Republican majority of 52-48. Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, joined Democrats in voting against her confirmation. The nomination process for Gabbard was not easy, and at times it seemed that she was at risk of losing valuable Republican votes, mainly due to her lack of experience in intelligence.
Her confirmation marks another victory for Trump in the election, as the Senate quickly approves his remaining candidates.
