Rafael TYPHOON: Desert testing and a new generation of drone protection systems

The company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems demonstrated its advanced technologies for combating drones in desert conditions, presenting the updated TYPHOON system and the compact Mini-Typhoon. These developments confirm Israel's leadership in creating solutions to counter drone threats.

The TYPHOON, equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon, is designed to intercept small-sized drones, missiles, and other high-speed targets. The system combines optical-electronic sensors and algorithms with AI, which allows it to detect threats at distant approaches and destroy them with the first shot. During the tests, TYPHOON successfully hit drones, including DJI Phantom models, using a minimum number of projectiles.

Mini-Typhoon is a remote—controlled medium-range system adapted to protect facilities from aerial threats. It is compact, easily integrates with radars and control systems, and is also capable of working in conjunction with the SPYDER ADS, a mobile Rafael anti—aircraft system. This modification is ideal for patrolling borders and protecting critical infrastructure.

Rafael also demonstrated the Dome laser system, which complements the TYPHOON, providing a "soft" destruction of drones without ammunition. In addition, the company introduced unmanned platforms with the "swarm-against-swarm" function, capable of autonomously attacking enemy UAVs.

Demand for such systems is growing amid increased drone attacks in conflict zones such as the Middle East and Ukraine. TYPHOON is already in use by the U.S. Navy, and its integration into network-centric systems makes it a key element of modern air defense.
