On June 4, 2025, the American company Lockheed Martin announced that the Swedish Defense Logistics Department has selected the next-generation Lockheed Martin TPY-4 ground-based airspace surveillance radar. This decision is aimed at significantly enhancing the country's long-range surveillance capabilities and ensuring airspace security.
The TPY-4 radar is a fifth-generation platform with advanced technologies for detecting and tracking aerial targets at long distances. Sweden has become the third country to adopt this modern system, underscoring its importance and effectiveness in today's security environment.
The use of the TPY-4 will allow Sweden to improve early warning of aerial threats, enhance integration with allied air defense systems, and strengthen national defense. This system also contributes to the development of airspace monitoring capabilities in the face of growing challenges and threats.
