Spain has achieved a remarkable technological breakthrough with its S-81 Isaac Peral submarine, becoming the first country to develop a vessel capable of producing hydrogen on board.

This revolutionary achievement marks a significant milestone in naval engineering and underwater technology, positioning Spain at the forefront of maritime innovation.

Revolutionary Hydrogen Production system transforms submarine capabilities The S-81 Isaac Peral submarine represents a watershed moment in naval technology as the world's first submarine with the ability to generate hydrogen directly on board.

This ground-breaking capability uses an innovative system called BEST AIP (Bio-Ethanol Steaming Reforming Air Independent Propulsion), which converts bioethanol to hydrogen through an advanced reforming process.
