A secret American spy plane has been spotted in the skies over Scotland at 60,000 feet — about twice as high as commercial airliners at cruising altitude.
U-2S «Dragon Lady» — A high-altitude reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft that performs flights in 24/7/365 mode, providing critical intelligence and ensuring global security.
On Friday morning, at about 10:00 a.m., aviation enthusiasts using the global flight tracking service Flightradar24 noticed a U-2 aircraft flying over the Rosnit Peninsula in Argyll and Bute.
The U-2 aircraft are based at the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base in California, but then transferred to operational units around the world.
