New photographs that have appeared in the public domain demonstrate the serial use of the fifth-generation J-35A fighter by the Chinese military, which indicates significant progress in the modernization of the Chinese Air Force. This event is becoming particularly important against the background of the growing strategic interest of the United States in the Indo-Pacific region and the growing tension over China's possible military plans against Taiwan.
The J-35A fighter, developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, represents a further development of the FC-31 program, which was introduced back in 2012. According to experts, the J-35A has improved characteristics of stealth (stealth technology), electronic equipment and combat controllability, which makes it competitive against analogues such as the American F-35.
The strengthening of China's air power coincides with a changing geopolitical agenda in the Asia-Pacific region. The United States is increasingly sending its military resources to the area, fearing the growing influence of China, especially in the context of a potential conflict over Taiwan— a territory that Beijing considers its integral part.
In addition, the appearance of the J-35A may become part of China's broader strategy to strengthen its military presence in the South China Sea, where the country has already deployed infrastructure on artificial islands, including air defense systems and missile systems. Such actions are causing concern among neighboring states and Washington.
China's transition to mass production of fifth-generation fighter jets marks a qualitative leap in the development of its defense industry. It may also facilitate the export of the J-35A to other countries interested in modern weapons systems without the political conditions associated with Western supplies.
