France decommissions KC-135 Stratotanker and replaces them with European A330 MRTT refueling aircraft

France has begun decommissioning American KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft, replacing them with modern European multifunctional A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) refueling aircraft. This step is aimed at ensuring the independence of the French Air Force in matters of aerial refueling and increasing operational flexibility.

Advantages of replacement:

- Increased payload and range: The A330 MRTT has a larger fuel capacity and can simultaneously perform refueling and transportation tasks.

- Modern technology: European refueling ships are equipped with modern communication, navigation and control systems, which improves compatibility with other NATO platforms.

- Autonomy and strategic independence: abandoning American technology allows France to reduce dependence on foreign supplies and increase control over its own military operations.
