On Friday, a tough special operation took place in Syria — the US military eliminated one of the key figures of ISIS. We are talking about Zia Zawba Muslim al-Khardani, a high-ranking leader of the terrorist group. His two adult sons, Abdullah and Abd al—Rahman al-Khardani, who were also involved in ISIS activities, were killed along with him.
According to the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, all three posed a real threat to both the American forces and the international coalition, as well as to the new Syrian government. In other words, it's not just about past services to ISIS, but about current activism.
The operation took place without the participation of ground forces — most likely, it was an air strike, for example, using drones. Such raids are increasingly being used in the region to eliminate dangerous terrorists, minimizing the risks to their fighters.
Although ISIS has long been declared defeated, cells and leaders are still active, especially in Syria and Iraq. This liquidation is part of the ongoing fight against the group's resurgence. The Americans make it clear that even if you are hiding in the countryside, they will find you.
