The existence of a new French multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) called Foudre, developed by Turgis & Gaillard, has been revealed. This previously secret project, now made public, came at a time when the French army urgently needs to replace its outdated LRU (Lance-Roquettes Unitaire) systems, whose combat readiness is steadily declining. With a critical capability gap expected by 2027 and foreign alternatives raising concerns about strategic autonomy, Foudre is conceived as a high-performance, fully sovereign solution positioned as the future French equivalent of the American HIMARS.
