The US Secretary of Defense introduces new restrictions on the press at the Pentagon

Pete Hegseth

The US Secretary of Defense, who has faced leaks to the media during his short tenure, imposed a number of press restrictions on Friday evening, including a ban on journalists visiting large areas of the Pentagon unaccompanied by the government. — areas where the press had access in previous administrations, as it covered the activities of the most powerful armed forces in the world.

The new restricted areas include his office and the offices of his top aides, as well as all the various rooms in the giant building that houses the press offices of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Space Forces.

The media will also be banned from the offices of the Pentagon's top military leadership, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kane, without Hegseth's approval and the escort of his assistants. The staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff traditionally maintains good relations with the press.
