M1117 Guardian armored vehicle in Kosovo

Kosovo's security forces have received 50 M1117 Guardian armored vehicles from the United States as part of efforts to strengthen the country's military capabilities. This transfer is part of the U.S. Surplus Military Assets Program and is considered one of the largest acquisitions of ground-based systems for Kosovo to date.

The M1117 Guardian armored vehicles will be integrated into the operational structure of the Kosovo Security Forces and are expected to significantly enhance the mobility, firepower and survivability of troops in a wide range of missions. These vehicles have high cross-country capability, armor protection against mines and SOFA strikes, as well as powerful weapons, including a caliber machine gun.50 and a grenade launcher.

The transfer of equipment takes place against the background of the active modernization of Kosovo, related to the need to strengthen the defense position in the face of continuing challenges to regional security. Kosovo continues to develop its armed forces in an effort to improve its ability to repel threats and ensure stability.

The U.S. Surplus Military Articles Program plays an important role in providing modern equipment to allies, increasing regional security capabilities and strengthening defense cooperation. The delivery of the Guardian M1117 serves as a powerful symbol of the partnership between Kosovo and the United States.

The introduction of these armored vehicles allows the Kosovo security forces to respond more effectively to processes related to border protection, maintaining public order and countering threats in the complex region of the Balkans.
