A small earthquake shook New York and New Jersey

On Saturday evening, residents of northern New York and northeastern New Jersey felt weak tremors - a small earthquake occurred in the region. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the tremors was 3.0.

The epicenter of the tremors was in New Jersey, northeast of Hasbrook Heights, in Bergen County. The earthquake occurred at a relatively shallow depth — about 10 kilometers underground, which could have contributed to the fact that it was felt on the surface. Although earthquakes in the northeastern United States are rare, they are not completely unexpected, and a magnitude 3.0 event is considered weak. Such tremors are usually felt as a short-term vibration or slight rocking, especially in the upper floors of buildings, and rarely cause any damage.
