China is developing robotic guards for its Tiangong space Station. Powered by small engines, these robotic beasts with artificial intelligence are being developed to intercept and physically repel suspicious objects from their orbiting station. This is a deceptively simple but ingenious step towards active space defense in an increasingly militarized world.
Instead of firing directed energy weapons such as lasers or projectiles that will turn a potential invader into a cloud of deadly fragments flying at 21 times the speed of sound, the Chinese have come up with a very Zen approach — "a reed that bends in the wind." Bots will grab a threatening object and easily push it away from danger.
