The Pentagon has received a batch of disposable Grasshopper cargo gliders from DZYNE Technologies

The US Air Force has received a small batch of autonomous Grasshopper air cargo gliders from DZYNE Technologies. These disposable devices, worth $40,000, are designed for accurate and safe cargo delivery. Their use in high-threat areas avoids risks for the crew. In addition to military operations, Grasshopper can be used in humanitarian missions and emergency relief efforts. DZYNE Technologies plans to release an improved version with an extended flight range in 2026.

The autonomous Grasshopper glider is designed for precise cargo delivery from a safe zone to high-threat areas. The device is launched from different platforms, which makes its use flexible and convenient. Grasshopper is effective where the use of manned aircraft is associated with high risk. The cost of the device is $40,000.

The airframe was developed by DZYNE Technologies in cooperation with the US Air Force at the request of the combat commands. According to the head of the company, the platform is applicable not only in military operations, but also in humanitarian missions and emergencies. The device was designed and put into operation in less than a year.

DZYNE Technologies is also developing an extended-range version of the Grasshopper, which is scheduled for release in early 2026. This model will be able to stay in the air longer, carry more cargo, and at the same time perform tasks autonomously and accurately even in the absence of GPS, as well as when exposed to electronic warfare.

In anticipation of the growing demand in both the military and civilian sectors, the company has increased its production capacity. At the end of 2023, a new 11,600 m2 plant was launched in Irvine, California, which now provides large-scale production of Grasshopper gliders.

DZYNE's portfolio of unmanned systems also includes ULTRA and LEAP platforms.
