Czech Republic has ordered 44 Leopard 2A8 tanks — deliveries will begin in 2028

Leopard 2A8 at the exhibition

1.34 billion euros for the latest tanks from Germany

The Czech Republic has officially signed a contract for the supply of 44 Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks. The deal is worth about 1.34 billion euros. The agreement was signed between the Czech Ministry of Defense, the Federal Armaments Department of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) and the manufacturer, KNDS Deutschland. This is one of the Czech Republic's largest defense orders in recent years and an important step in modernizing its ground forces.

Now the Czech army will have the most modern German armor.

Why Leopard 2A8 — and what it gives to the Czech Republic

Leopard 2A8 is the flagship version of the legendary tank, combining powerful protection, precise weapons and a new generation of digital "stuffing". It is compatible with NATO systems, easily integrated into common operations and maintained on a single logistics base with other countries of the bloc.

For the Czech Republic, this means: not just new tanks, but reaching the level of advanced European armies. Joint exercises, common tactics, common maintenance — everything works like clockwork.

Option for 14 additional machines — safety margin

The contract stipulates an option for the purchase of 14 more tanks. This is standard practice.: first, the main order, and then the decision on whether to expand the fleet. If the situation escalates or there is a need for a reinforced group, the Czech Republic will be able to quickly increase the number of combat vehicles without negotiations and new tenders.

This is not just a reserve, it is a strategic flexibility.

Deliveries from 2028 will take a long time, but inevitably

The first tanks will arrive in the Czech Republic no earlier than 2028. The time frame seems long, but you can't speed up the production of such complex systems. But you can be sure: each Leopard 2A8 will be assembled according to the latest requirements and checked before shipment.

For the army, this time is a chance to train crews, rebuild the infrastructure and bring the rear to the level of a new technical structure.

South Korea to build K2 Black Panther tank production and maintenance center in Poland

Hyundai Rotem strengthens its presence in Europe

South Korea is making a strategic step into the European arms market: Hyundai Rotem has announced plans to establish a K2 Black Panther main battle tank production and maintenance center in Poland. This center will become a key platform for the supply and support of tanks not only for the Polish army, but also for other European countries interested in modern armored vehicles.

The decision is due to the growing demand for high-tech weapons in the context of the tense geopolitical situation on the continent.

A major contract worth 6.5 billion dollars — expansion of cooperation

The new agreement between the Polish Ministry of National Defense and Hyundai Rotem, concluded in 2025, is estimated at about 6.5 billion dollars. This contract is the second in a row and significantly expands the scope of the original 2022 agreement, under which Poland ordered hundreds of K2 tanks.

The financing will go not only for the supply of new machines, but also for the construction of production facilities, staff training and the creation of a logistics and repair system in Poland.

K2 Black Panther — an advanced tank for European armies

The K2 Black Panther is considered one of the most advanced tanks in the world. It is equipped with an automated loading system, active protection, a powerful engine and a digital fire control system, which ensures high mobility, survivability and accuracy of fire. Its characteristics make it competitive against Western counterparts such as Leopard 2 and Abrams.

Localization of production in Poland will allow for faster response to the needs of the army and shorter delivery times for other partner countries.

Strategic importance for Poland and South Korea

For Poland, this project is an important element of modernizing the armed forces and strengthening national defense. Creating its own production base reduces dependence on external supplies and develops the domestic defense sector.

For South Korea, this is the largest export success in the field of heavy armored vehicles and a signal of its entry into a leading position in the global defense industry. Poland is becoming the "gateway" to Europe for Korean military technology.

Pakistan unveils first locally made Haider main battle tank

Pakistani Haider Main Battle Tank

The presentation of Pakistan's first locally produced Haider (Lionheart) main battle tank (MBT) marks an important milestone in the development of domestic defense production. The cooperation between Pakistan's Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) and China's NORINCO highlights the depth of cooperation between the two countries in strengthening Pakistan's military might. Haider, based on the Chinese VT4, represents a continuation of the defense technology partnership between Pakistan and China. Its design is based on the Chinese VT-4, its existence became known at the IDEX exhibition in the UAE in 2023, which was presented in the Pakistan pavilion. This partnership goes beyond tank development, with notable examples such as the JF-17 Thunder, a multirole combat aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan Aviation Complex (PAC) and China's Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC).

The design of the Haider MBT is traditional: the driver is located in the front central part of the hull, the tower is in the middle, and the engine is at the rear. The tank's crew consists of three people: a driver, a commander and a gunner. The main armament of the tank consists of a 125 mm smoothbore cannon, which is capable of firing various ammunition. Additional armament consists of one paired 7.62 mm machine gun and a remote-controlled combat station mounted in the rear of the commander's hatch and armed with a 12.7mm machine gun. The tank's suspension system consists of six support rollers on each side, with the first and previous wheels mounted on hydraulic shock absorbers. The tank is also equipped with an electronically controlled four-stroke turbocharged diesel engine with a capacity of 1,200 hp and a hydromechanical automatic transmission. It can reach a maximum speed of 70 km/h (with a maximum range of 500 km).

The turret and hull armor of the Haider tank is a mixture of composite, reactive and spaced armor. Composite armor consists of layers of ceramics, metals, and polymers that help resist the penetration of external threats. They are lighter in weight and effective. Ceramic materials absorb the penetration of fragments, reducing penetration. Reactive armor uses explosive charges to deflect incoming projectiles. ERA is installed at the most vulnerable points of the tank, such as the hull and the entire turret. Spaced armor consists of two layers of armor with a gap between them, slowing down the momentum of flying projectiles and increasing the collision time. In addition, the front of the hull is protected by a package of explosive reactive armor.

The Haider MBT is equipped with an advanced fire control system that contains multiple sensors and a guidance device to increase the accuracy and lethality of the tank. This system is designed to help the tank crew see the battlefield clearly, as well as effectively identify and combat threats. The main gun of the tank is equipped with a thermal imaging sight, a laser rangefinder and a panoramic commander's sight. The fire control system also includes a ballistic computer that calculates the firing solution for the main gun based on the distance to the target, the angle of inclination and various other parameters. This helps the crew make sure that the tank's projectiles hit the target accurately and with maximum effect. In addition to these features, the tank's lethality is further enhanced by the addition of a sophisticated ballistic computer that calculates the firing solution for the main gun with extreme accuracy. This feature promises accuracy.
