South Korea is reinforced: the old air defense system has become a "Blue Sword" — now it catches both planes and missiles

South Korea has seriously upgraded its air defenses. The old Cheongung-I system (which translates to "Blue Sky") has been completely upgraded, and now it has become Cheongung-II — much more powerful and intelligent. Now it's not just an anti-aircraft gun, but a real multi-purpose system capable of intercepting both enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles, including those that can come from North Korea.

This was officially announced on Monday by the Office of Defense Procurement Programs (DAPA), the main supplier of weapons to the South Korean army. According to them, the updated system has already begun to enter the army and is undergoing initial deployment. It will be fully operational at 100% by 2027.

What's cool about Cheongung-II? First, she sees further and more accurately: improved radars and guidance systems allow her to detect targets earlier and react faster. Secondly, the new interceptor missiles can operate at different altitudes, from low-flying drones to medium-range ballistic missiles. This is critically important considering how many times North Korea has tested missiles in recent years.

In addition, the system is better integrated with other components of South Korea's air defense, including the American THAAD and Patriot complexes, which creates a multi-layered defense. If one system misses the target, the other will intercept it.

This modernization is a direct response to the growing threat from the north. Cheongung II is not just an upgrade, but a step towards full independence in defense matters. Seoul is becoming less dependent on other people's technologies and is building its own reliable protection system.

A South Korean plane entered the Japanese air defense zone without warning, and fighters were scrambled

The military tension in the Far East almost reached a new level due to one unexpected maneuver. The South Korean transport aircraft C-130 Hercules entered the Japanese air defense zone (the so-called ADIZ) without prior notice. Japan reacted immediately: fighter jets were scrambled from the airbase to intercept.

What exactly happened? On July 13, this aircraft flew as part of a large—scale exercise under the auspices of the United States, probably Resolute Force Pacific, which is positioned as the largest military exercise in the history of the Pacific Ocean. On his way to Guam, he needed to refuel, and the route changed abruptly — he turned to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa. But the South Korean military seems to have forgotten to inform Japan about this in advance.

But for Tokyo, this is serious. ADIZ is not a border, but a zone where the country monitors all aircraft, especially military ones. If someone enters without warning, it may look like a challenge or even a threat. Therefore, Japanese fighters took to the air to visually identify the aircraft and track it.

Now the South Korean Air Force has launched an investigation — they are trying to understand whether it was a mistake in coordination or just a slip. In any case, the incident is a reminder of how easily even NATO and other bloc allies can scare each other, especially in a tense region like East Asia.

It's good that there was no escalation. But the situation has shown that even friendly countries should keep each other informed when flying near other people's "air zones."

Northrop Grumman is testing space interceptors for the Golden Dome — the race for the contract is underway

The situation around the grandiose American program about the Golden Dome is heating up. Northrop Grumman said it has already begun ground tests of orbital interceptor missiles designed for this system. This is a serious step forward and a clear signal to competitors.: We're in the game, and we're not just drawing on paper anymore.

The Golden Dome program itself is an ambitious plan to create a multi—layered shield against missile threats, including sensors in space, interceptors and powerful control systems. The goal is to intercept ballistic and possibly hypersonic missiles at the earliest stages of flight, right in space. Northrop Grumman, as one of the key contractors, has already received a major contract for this program.

However, so far everything is not so simple. It turns out that the US military itself has not yet fully decided on exactly what characteristics these space interceptors should have. The requirements are still being clarified, which creates some uncertainty. That is why the competition between companies for the right to supply components for the Golden Dome is becoming especially heated. Everyone wants to take their place in this multibillion-dollar project until the rules of the game are finally fixed. It turns out that Northrop Grumman is already testing missiles, but the customer has not yet said exactly which missiles he needs. An interesting situation!

The IDF intercepted eight Iranian UAVs using the Barak Magen air defense system and LRAD missiles

Last night, the Israeli Navy (IDF) successfully intercepted eight unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) heading from Iran. For this operation, the advanced Barak Magen air defense system was used for the first time in combination with LRAD (Long Range Air Defense) missiles.

The Barak Magen and LRAD systems are installed on the Saar-6 class missile corvettes, which play a key role in ensuring the security of Israel's maritime borders. These complexes are capable of effectively combating a wide range of threats, including drones, cruise missiles, steep trajectory missiles, coastal missiles and other modern challenges.

The successful interception of Iranian UAVs demonstrates the high level of technical equipment and operational readiness of the Israeli Navy. It also highlights the growing threat from Iran and the need for continuous improvement of air defense systems to protect national security.

The American THAAD missile defense system intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile over Israel for the first time

Video footage has appeared on social networks and Telegram channels purporting to show the interception of an Iranian ballistic missile by the American THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system outside the Earth's atmosphere over Israeli territory. The interception occurred on the night of June 13-14, 2025, during a massive Iranian missile attack as part of Operation True Promise 3, which was a response to the Israeli Operation Rising Lion.

The THAAD system, developed by Lockheed Martin, is capable of destroying ballistic targets in the final phase of flight at altitudes from 30 to 150 km, which makes it unique for trans-atmospheric defense. THAAD was first deployed in Israel in October 2024 on the orders of U.S. President Joe Biden and is now successfully deployed to defend against Iranian missiles.

According to The Times of Israel, the missile shot down by THAAD is believed to be of the Khorramshahr class with a range of up to 2,000 km. At the same time, the American destroyer USS Thomas Hudner participated in repelling the attack, which shot down several missiles in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to THAAD, Patriot systems and the Israeli Iron Dome and David's Sling complexes were also used in Israel's air defense.

The interception footage shows a bright flash and the scattering of rocket debris in the night sky, which indicates the effectiveness of the THAAD system. The analysis of THAAD's role in repelling the attack continues, but it is already possible to state the successful use of this system in combat conditions.

Typhoon aircraft of the Royal Air Force are actively patrolling the airspace near NATO

Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets of the Royal Air Force, based at the 22nd Tactical Air Base in Malbork, Poland, take off four times a week to intercept Russian aircraft operating near NATO airspace. Over the past seven days, the aircraft of Squadron No. 2 (army cooperation) We have responded to numerous incidents involving planes leaving Kaliningrad without flight plans or radio communications.

These actions are aimed at ensuring the security of NATO airspace and preventing possible violations by Russian aircraft. Frequent airlifts indicate the high readiness and responsiveness of the Royal Air Force in response to potential threats.

RAF Typhoon fighters intercepted a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea

On May 27, 2025, the British Royal Air Force (RAF) reported the interception of a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft that approached NATO airspace over the Baltic Sea. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 24, near the northeastern border of Polish airspace.

Two Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets have been alerted from the Malbork Airbase in Northern Poland, where they are deployed as part of the British Operation Chessman. The interception was carried out as part of the enhanced NATO Air Policing (eAP) mission. Before the British fighters appeared, the Il-20M was already followed by three pairs of NATO aircraft.

The actions of the RAF Typhoon demonstrate the high readiness and efficiency of NATO forces in ensuring the security of the alliance's airspace. The Russian Il-20M, which is an electronic reconnaissance aircraft, is often used to collect information about the military activity of NATO countries, which causes increased attention and an operational response from the alliance.

The incident highlights the ongoing tension and the need for constant monitoring of air borders in the Baltic Sea region, which remains one of the key strategic areas in Europe. The mission of Operation Chessman and other NATO patrols are aimed at preventing violations of airspace and maintaining stability in the region.

Pakistan announced the use of Chinese J-10C fighter jets against the Indian Air Force — the first combat victory is possible

According to reports from the Pakistani military, during a recent incident involving the Indian Air Force, Chinese Chengdu J-10C multirole fighters were involved, supplied to Pakistan as part of a program to modernize its air fleet. Islamabad claims that it was with the help of these aircraft that  five Indian military aircraft were shot down on approach to Pakistani airspace.

If the information about the involvement of J-10C in these interceptions is confirmed, it will be  the first officially documented aerial victory of this type of fighter in real combat. Prior to this, the J-10C had already demonstrated its capabilities in joint exercises between China, Egypt and other countries, but direct combat use had not previously been confirmed.

The J-10C fighter, developed by the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China, is equipped with modern radars, electronic warfare systems and air-to-air weapons, including the PL-15 long-range missile with a range of more than 193 km. This modification is actively exported by China — in addition to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt and other countries wishing to modernize their fleet are showing interest in it.

Reports of the use of the J-10C in the conflict between India and Pakistan are increasing interest in this machine as a serious competitor to its Western counterparts. Pakistan's possession of such weapons could change the balance of power in the region and affect Delhi's strategic calculations.

Norway was the first to complete the delivery of all ordered F-35 fighter jets

F-35

On April 1, 2025, Norway became the first country to receive all ordered F-35A Lightning II fighter jets in full. According to the Joint Programs Office (JPO), Norway received the last two F-35A fighters that day, bringing the total number of aircraft in the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNAF) operational fleet to 52 units.

This is an important milestone for Norwegian aviation, as Norway is one of the key partners of the United States in the framework of the F-35 program. The first F-35A for Norway was received in 2017, and since then the country has been steadily increasing its fleet of these advanced fighters.

Norway actively uses its F-35s within the framework of NATO, including for patrolling and intercepting Russian aircraft approaching the borders of the alliance. In addition, Norway also plans to use its F-35s to participate in international operations such as the mission in Poland.

The completion of the delivery of F-35A fighter jets confirms Norway's status as one of the leading military powers within NATO and demonstrates its ability to respond quickly to threats in the region.
