South Korea's KAI has received a second contract for the production of 20 KF-21 Boramae fighters worth 2.39 trillion won

Korea Aerospace Industries Co. (KAI) has announced the signing of a second major contract with the Office of the South Korean Defense Procurement Program (DAPA) for the production of 20 additional KF-21 Boramae fighters of its own production. The value of the agreement is about 2.39 trillion won (1.76 billion US dollars).

The main details of the contract

- The contract includes not only aircraft production, but also logistical support — technical manuals and training programs for pilots and technicians.

- Delivery of the first 20 fighters under the first contract is scheduled for the second half of 2026.

- According to the plan, a total of 40 KF-21 aircraft will be delivered by 2028.

- The overall goal is to produce 120 KF-21 fighters by 2032.

The KF-21 is a 4.5 generation multi—role fighter developed by South Korea in collaboration with Indonesia. The aircraft is designed to replace the outdated F-4, F-5, KF-16 and F-15K models in the South Korean Air Force. It is equipped with two General Electric F414 engines, is capable of speeds up to Mach 1.8 and carries a wide range of weapons, including guided missiles and bombs.

The KF-21 program symbolizes the significant progress of the South Korean aerospace industry and the country's desire for technological independence in the field of defense. The fighter combines modern avionics, sensors and multi-purpose capabilities, while remaining more affordable than its fifth-generation counterparts.

The KF-21 has already attracted interest from several countries, including Poland, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates, which view it as an alternative to more expensive Western fifth-generation fighters.

K2 Black Panther

As part of a large-scale diplomatic tour, representatives of more than ten countries visited Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in the city of Sacheon. This visit has become an important platform for demonstrating South Korean achievements in the field of the aerospace industry and discussing opportunities for international cooperation.

The delegation included the ambassadors of Greece, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Thailand and Uzbekistan. Diplomats from Poland, Iraq, Peru and Vietnam also took part, while military attaches from Australia, Colombia and the Philippines joined the participants. Such a wide geographical coverage highlights the growing interest of the international community in South Korea's technological developments.

During the visit, the delegation got acquainted with KAI's production facilities, where modern aviation systems are being created, including T-50 Golden Eagle combat training aircraft, KUH-1 Surion multipurpose helicopters and satellite technologies. The representatives of the countries highly appreciated the level of innovation and the export potential of the company's products.

For Korea Aerospace Industries, this visit was an opportunity to strengthen its position in the international market and discuss prospects for cooperation in the defense and civil sectors. Interest from countries such as Saudi Arabia and Poland may become the basis for new contracts and joint projects.

Experts note that such events help strengthen South Korea's position as a global player in the aerospace industry. It also highlights the country's desire to expand its influence through technological leadership and diplomatic ties.

In addition to this exhibition, Hyundai Rotem and Hanwha Aerospace, key players in the South Korean defense industry, recently demonstrated the K2 Black Panther tank and the K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzer to international delegations. Ambassadors, diplomats and military attaches from 15 countries visited the facilities of both companies, examining in detail two of their most sought-after products.

Rheinmetall launches production of components for the F-35A fighter in Germany

   

The German defense concern Rheinmetall has announced the start of assembly of equipment for the production of the central sections of the fuselage of the American fifth-generation fighter F-35A Lightning II. The new facility is located near Weze Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia and plans to begin operations in July 2025.  

Strategic importance of the project  

This step strengthens Rheinmetall's position as a key player in the European defense industry. The company is already actively repurposing its facilities for military needs: for example, two German factories that previously produced automotive components are now focusing on the production of ammunition and other defense equipment. The Eeca project will become part of the global supply chain for the F-35, which is operated in 15 countries, including NATO partners.  

Rheinmetall Expansion Context

In recent years, the concern has become more active in Eastern Europe: for example, a plant for the production of 155-mm artillery shells is being built in Lithuania, which will begin operation in 2026-2027. The production of components for the F-35A in Germany highlights Rheinmetall's desire to strengthen the EU's technological independence in the face of rising military spending.
