South Korea is developing a new generation of NIFV infantry fighting vehicles: stealth, drones and powerful weapons

NIFV Block-II armored vehicle with stealth design elements

Hanwha Aerospace has presented the development of South Korea's future infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), combining advanced technologies of stealth, autonomy and high firepower. The new NIFV armored vehicles are designed to provide next-generation battlefield superiority.

NIFV Block-I and Block-II: Platform Evolution

The development is being carried out in stages. The first stage is the Redback eX armored vehicle, also known as the NIFV Block-I. This model serves as a technological and industrial framework, providing modularity and flexibility for various operational requirements. It integrates modular turret technology, which makes it possible to adapt weapons to the needs of different customers. The second stage, NIFV Block-II— is an evolutionary step that preserves the basic Block-I platform, but adds new opportunities for survival and mobility.

Key technologies and weapons

The new infantry fighting vehicles will be equipped with advanced systems that ensure superiority in combat. Among the key systems is the Israeli Iron Fist active protection system, designed to intercept anti—tank missiles and projectiles. The main armament will be a 40 mm CTA cannon developed by SNT Dynamics. The vehicles will also receive anti-tank missiles with a range of up to 8 km, which will allow them to hit targets at a considerable distance.

Breakthrough features of NIFV Block-II

The NIFV Block-II version will receive a number of advanced technologies. The car will be equipped with an electric propulsion system and an improved active suspension, which will increase its mobility and stealth. Special attention is paid to reducing visibility: the use of a stealth design will reduce radar and infrared signatures, making detection more difficult. It is also planned to install an intelligent fire control system.

Prospects and strategy

The development of the NIFV family is positioned by Hanwha Aerospace as a long-term initiative with plans going beyond the coming years. Integration with unmanned systems and the use of stealth technologies correspond to modern trends in warfare. This program strengthens South Korea's position as one of the leading developers of modern armored vehicles.
