India has suspended the purchase of six Boeing P-8I patrol aircraft in response to US duties and rising contract costs

The Indian Ministry of Defense has suspended negotiations on the purchase of six Boeing P-8I Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft in response to the US imposition of 25 percent import duties on Indian goods from August 7-8, 2025. Washington's measure has become a means of putting pressure on India to stop buying Russian oil and reduce defense purchases from Russia. The contract for the purchase of six P-8I aircraft, approved by the US State Department in 2021, was initially estimated at $2.42 billion, but due to sharp inflation and other factors, the cost increased by about 50% to $3.6 billion by mid-2025.

The suspension of purchases reflects a broader gap in defense cooperation between the countries and a strategic reassessment of bilateral ties in light of trade tensions and soaring prices. Indian officials expressed "shock and disappointment" over tariffs and high cost increases, which played a key role in the decision to freeze the project. The visit of the Indian Defense Minister to Washington, where it was planned to discuss new purchases, was also canceled.

At the same time, India already owns a fleet of 12 such aircraft and had previously completed the delivery of the first batch. In the future, the deal may be renewed if the US offers more competitive prices or eases trade pressure.

The suspension also affected or may affect other defense purchases from the United States, including Stryker armored vehicles and Javelin anti-tank missiles. Related sources note that India may increase purchases of Russian weapons, including Su-57 fighter jets.

Thus, India's decision is related to trade and political pressure from the United States, a sharp increase in the cost of the contract and the desire to maintain strategic autonomy in choosing suppliers of military equipment.

Northrop Grumman is building a "Golden Dome" for America — and wants to be in charge of the new air defense

The American giant of the defense industry Northrop Grumman has stated that it will not just be a participant, but a key player in the Pentagon's large—scale missile defense system called the Golden Dome for America. Does it sound like fiction? In fact, this is a new US strategy to create a unified, super—powerful air defense network capable of intercepting missiles, drones, and even hypersonic weapons.

Northrop Grumman is actively expanding its participation in the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) program. The company already supplies radars, control systems, sensors and software that link everything together — from satellites to interceptor missiles. Now they want to become the "brain" of this whole system.

Why now? Because the threats are growing: China, Russia, and North Korea are all actively testing new missiles, including hypersonic ones. And the United States understands that the old systems are not enough. We need a unified network that sees everything, thinks fast and hits accurately.

In addition, the demand for such technologies is growing not only in the United States, but also abroad — the allies want to protect themselves. And Northrop Grumman is ready to supply not only components, but also entire defense architectures.

So the Golden Dome is not just a metaphor. This is an attempt to create an impenetrable shield over America and its allies. And Northrop Grumman is already building a place for itself at the center of this system.

The United States is increasing arms supplies to Europe: more than $3 billion for missiles, air defense and anti-tank systems

A wave of new U.S. arms deals with European allies has highlighted the growth of defense investments on the continent, as several countries receive expensive contracts to strengthen their air force and missile defense capabilities amid escalating regional tensions.

Over the past two months, the U.S. State Department has approved more than $3 billion in potential foreign military sales to European countries. They include a wide range of advanced weapons systems such as air-to-air missiles, ground-based ammunition, anti-tank weapons, and air defense platforms.

Among the largest deals is the proposed sale of AIM—120D Advanced Medium Range air-to-air missiles to Poland in the amount of $1.33 billion, as well as a separate deal for $180 million for GBU-39/B small diameter bombs. These acquisitions support Warsaw's ongoing efforts to modernize its Air Force and expand ammunition stocks.

Norway is also investing in air-to-air missile capabilities with an estimated $370.9 million contract for AIM-9X Block II tactical missiles. Meanwhile, Turkey has requested two separate purchases: $225 million for AIM-120C-8 missiles and $79.1 million for AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles.

Several NATO and partner countries are also investing in air-to-ground and short-range weapons. The Netherlands has requested joint air-to-ground missiles in a $215 million package, while Estonia is seeking a $296 million deal for Javelin anti-tank missiles, one of the largest Javelin deals between the US and the EU to date.

In southern Europe, Romania is seeking to expand its integrated air defense by purchasing a $280 million Patriot air defense system, complementing earlier acquisitions. Italy is seeking a $211 million package for additional advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles to equip its high-speed jet fleet.Smaller but strategically important sales include a $100 million deal to supply AW-119Kx helicopters to Bosnia and Herzegovina, designed to support the country's internal security and border patrol.

Together, these contracts reflect a pattern of accelerated procurement by European allies, with a particular focus on compatibility with U.S. platforms and NATO force structures. While many weapons are designed for high-speed jet fleets, others enhance ground-based air defense and anti-tank defense capabilities. areas identified as critical in NATO's evolving deterrence posture.

Oshkosh Defense has received a major contract for the supply of patrol vehicles for the Netherlands

DXPV

Oshkosh Defense Europe BV, in partnership with Oshkosh Defense, LLC, a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK], has signed a significant contract with the Dutch Ministry of Defense. The agreement provides for the production of 150 Dutch Expeditionary Patrol vehicles (DXPV), a specialized version of the American Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). These vehicles are designed to meet the special requirements of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps under the Future Littoral All-Terrain Mobility — Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV) program.

The DXPV is an adapted version of the JLTV, tailored to the unique operating conditions in coastal and rugged areas. The machine combines high mobility, security and modularity, making it an ideal choice for performing tasks in difficult terrain. The DXPV is equipped with modern communication systems, reinforced armor and the ability to integrate additional equipment, which significantly expands its combat capabilities.

The FLATM-PV program is aimed at providing units of the Dutch Marine Corps with advanced vehicles capable of operating in high-threat environments. The vehicles will be used for patrol, reconnaissance and rapid response in coastal areas where high maneuverability and reliability of equipment are required.

The contract underlines the confidence of international military departments in Oshkosh Defense products. The JLTV has already established itself as one of the most reliable and versatile tactical vehicles in the world, being in service with the US Army and other countries. The delivery of the DXPV to the Netherlands will be an important step in strengthening the country's defense capabilities and increasing the operational effectiveness of the Royal Marine Corps.

The cooperation between Oshkosh Defense and the Dutch Ministry of Defense demonstrates the trend towards the globalization of defense programs. This also confirms the desire of NATO countries to unify military equipment and technologies to increase compatibility within the alliance.

The production of DXPVS will not only strengthen Oshkosh Defense's position in the European market, but will also create new jobs in the region. In addition, the successful implementation of the FLATM-PV program can become the basis for further cooperation with other countries interested in acquiring similar equipment.

This contract also highlights the importance of investing in modern technologies to ensure security in the face of growing geopolitical challenges. The DXPV will be a key element of the mobility of the Netherlands Marine Corps, contributing to both national and international missions.
