Warrant Officer George Hohl, a vehicle technician with nearly 20 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, was found dead on September 5, 2025, three days after being reported missing while deployed in Latvia. Hohl served as part of Operation REASSURANCE, Canada's NATO mission aimed at deterring Russian aggression in Eastern Europe. He was assigned to the Aviation Battalion under NATO’s Multinational Brigade in Latvia.
The Canadian Forces Military Police are working with Latvian authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. There is no indication that his death poses any wider security threat to deployed personnel. Hohl’s passing is deeply mourned by his comrades and military leadership, noting his long and dedicated service.
