DSEI 2025 showed a new British BMP — Ajax with a Lockheed Martin turret and a 40 mm cannon

New Ajax infantry fighting vehicle at DSEI stand 2025

Not just an upgrade — an elongated case and more space

At DSEI 2025 in London, General Dynamics Land Systems–UK, together with Lockheed Martin, presented a new version of the Ajax infantry fighting vehicle. It's not just cosmetics — the car has received an elongated body: 30 centimeters longer than the basic Ares model. This means more internal space, more convenient for the crew and paratroopers.

The vehicle is designed for three crew members and eight fighters. Now it will be easier for soldiers to move inside, and the equipment will be placed without compromising comfort.

A turret without a crew — and a cannon that hits further

The main innovation is a new uninhabited tower, developed in the UK by Lockheed Martin. It is completely enclosed, controlled remotely from inside the car. The crew keeps their heads down, doesn't take any risks, but at the same time sees everything through cameras and thermal imagers.

The turret is equipped with a 40 mm CTA (Cased Telescoped Armament) cannon, which has already been tested in other army projects. It is more powerful than the old 30mm and allows you to fire on heavy equipment, fortified positions and even light armored cars.

What does the 40mm CTA do and why do we need a missile bay?

40mm shells are a serious increase in firepower. They penetrate more armor, deal more damage to infantry, and can be used in urban combat. The cannon is compatible with smart ammo, which increases accuracy.

Another find is a separate compartment for anti—tank guided missiles. Now the infantry fighting vehicle can not only fire a cannon, but also launch missiles at enemy tanks without leaving cover.

Tracks, protection, and why it's important for the Army

The vehicle is equipped with composite rubber tracks from the Canadian Soucy Defense. They are quieter, wear out more slowly and do not damage roads — an important advantage when moving around the city or in the rear.

An active protection system has also been announced, which means Ajax will be able to repel ATGM and grenade attacks. All this makes the car not just a transport, but a full-fledged combat unit.

Raytheon has received a $72 million contract to support the TOW missile guidance system in the US Army

Raytheon has received a new contract from the US Army worth $72 million. Raytheon will now support and maintain the advanced target detection system, ITAS. This is an important component for targeting TOW anti-tank missiles, which have long and reliably served the US Army.

The ITAS platform helps to accurately detect, track and hit armored targets. The work under the contract will ensure the smooth operation of this system in all conditions, including upgrades and maintenance.

Such a contract is a sign that even long—standing developments like TOW remain in the spotlight and continue to play a key role in defense, especially given the importance of anti-tank capabilities on the modern battlefield.

French robot DRAILER MARSEUS with Akeron LP missiles — a new step in unmanned warfare

DRAILER MARSEUS

At Techterre 2025, the French company Arquus unveiled a cool new thing — the DRAILER MARSEUS ground combat robot, which can carry as many as eight Akeron LP anti-tank missiles. This seriously increases its striking power and makes it an excellent assistant for infantry without unnecessary risk.

What is DRAILER MARSEUS?

This is a four-wheeled unmanned vehicle powered by a hybrid electric motor. It can travel up to 100 km at a speed of up to 20 km/h, while carrying a payload weighing up to 700 kg. That is, he can not only carry weapons, but also engage in reconnaissance, drone warfare, and even electronic warfare.

And what kind of rockets are Akeron LP?

These are modern fifth-generation anti-tank missiles weighing less than 100 kg. They have encrypted communication, the ability to work in the "shot and forget" mode or under operator control. The firing range is up to 8 km, and the target can be taken even from around a corner or over a mountain — out of line of sight.

The warhead of the missiles is tandem, meaning it effectively hits tanks with active protection, fortifications, lightly armored vehicles, and even manpower. In general, this is not just a toy — it is a real weapon of the future.

What is the good of such a system?

- Ranged combat: hitting targets at a distance of up to 8 km

. - Less risk to people: infantry can fire on the enemy without showing themselves.

- Versatility: the vehicle can be a scout, fire support, and even fight enemy drones.

- EU support: the MARSEUS project is funded by the European Defense Fund, which means it will continue to develop.

The final demonstration of the system's combat capabilities is scheduled for September 2025. If everything goes well, the DRAILER MARSEUS can become the standard for European armies — a mobile, autonomous and very powerful tool on the battlefield.

While the world is developing drones in the air, France is already actively developing ground-based drones. And if before they were more of an experiment, now they are fully operational weapons of the next generation.

Israeli Spike missiles and Mossad drones destroyed Iran's air defenses from the inside

During the initial phase of the conflict between Israel and Iran, Israeli intelligence agencies used Spike anti-tank missile systems and drones deployed directly on Iranian territory. These systems were remotely controlled and played a key role in neutralizing Iran's air defense systems.

Spike NLOS missiles, equipped with a two-way electron-optical image transmission system, allowed operators to control the destruction of targets out of line of sight at a distance of up to 25 kilometers. The use of such missiles along with kamikaze drones provided the Israeli forces with the opportunity to effectively attack and weaken Iran's air defenses from the inside, which greatly facilitated subsequent airstrikes.

In addition, the Mossad has established several bases in Iran for the production and launch of drones that were activated during artillery fire. These actions allowed Israel to gain a tactical advantage by weakening the enemy's defenses and creating the conditions for successful strikes against Iran's key military and nuclear facilities.

The MBDA plant in Bolton is expanding to increase production of anti-tank missiles

Meteor Rocket

Due to the large-scale rearmament of the European armies after the aggravation of the geopolitical situation, the plant for the production of anti-tank missiles in the city of Bolton (Great Britain) plans to double its capacity. This became known after the announcement of MBDA, one of the largest European developers of missile weapons, about its intention to invest 200 million pounds in modernization and expansion of production.

The expansion of the plant is due to the growing demand for modern anti-tank systems from NATO countries and other European countries seeking to strengthen their defense capabilities. The increase in production volumes will satisfy both UK government orders and export supplies.

The investment also coincides with the announced initiatives of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the European Commission to create a so-called "bank for defense, security and sustainability", which should ensure the coordination of procurement, logistics and strategic development of the EU defense sector and its partners.

This expansion marks an important step in rebuilding the European military industrial base, which has faced supply disruptions and ammunition shortages amid new security challenges.

Manul infantry fighting vehicle: characteristics and application prospects

Manul

The newest Russian infantry fighting vehicle (BMP) Manul, developed by Kurganmashzavod specialists, can receive the Epoch module with a 57-millimeter cannon. At the same time, the vehicle is being developed taking into account the experience gained by the Russian military during the use of armored vehicles in the special military operation zone in Ukraine.

The Manul infantry fighting vehicle is a universal platform capable of carrying various weapons, including multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and anti—aircraft missile systems (SAM). In addition, Manul can act as a base for creating various special machines.

The new infantry fighting vehicle initially has a reserve for a possible improvement in security (reservation) and an increase in payload. At the same time, various modernization options make it possible to expand the range of Manula applications. The forward position of the UTD-32T engine will allow the crew and troops to more conveniently enter the infantry fighting vehicle through the rear ramp, as well as facilitate the loading of ammunition and cargo into the vehicle. The Manula engine has 816 horsepower, and its combat module includes a 30-millimeter cannon, a machine gun, and Kornet anti-tank missiles.

Improvements for Manula

The projected vehicle will be protected from small-caliber shells and fragments of field artillery, and will also be able to move in any road conditions, including overcoming water obstacles without training.

In addition, Manul may receive a new Epoch combat module with a 57mm automatic cannon. It will allow infantry fighting vehicles at long distances to reliably hit similar enemy vehicles with artillery fire. The use of modern 57 mm caliber ammunition will ensure the fulfillment of a wider range of tasks. The unified technical base and unification of components with the BMP-3 reduces costs at all stages of the product's life cycle: development, manufacturing, personnel training, operation and repair.

The Times revealed Britain's secret involvement in the Ukrainian conflict

In April 2025, the British newspaper The Times published a high-profile investigation that shed light on deeply classified aspects of Britain's involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. The material is based on conversations with senior British military, intelligence officers and other insiders, as well as on data that has not previously been published in open sources. It turned out that London's role in the Ukrainian war was much larger than previously thought. The British authorities acted systematically, in a coordinated manner, and sometimes bypassed widespread international publicity.

A few weeks before the start of Russia's full-scale military operation in February 2022, London secretly sent a group of several dozen military personnel to the territory of Ukraine. Their main task was to urgently train the Ukrainian defense forces in the use of British NLAW anti-tank missile systems. These portable rocket launchers were hastily delivered to Ukraine in more than two thousand units, a delivery that played a crucial role in repelling the advance of Russian armored columns in the first weeks of the conflict.

However, the British instructors were at risk. According to sources, in a matter of days before February 24, 2022, the date of the start of its operation, the British military were urgently evacuated back to the UK. The reason was the fear that an open phase of the war would begin and the presence of British soldiers in Ukraine could provoke a diplomatic or even military escalation. Despite the departure of specialists, the operation on military assistance to Ukraine was not suspended: the supply of weapons continued, and intelligence support from the UK even intensified.Since the first days of the war, British intelligence and the Ministry of Defense have become one of the main sources of operational information for Ukraine. In particular, it was the British satellites that recorded the movements of the Russian columns, striking logistics and command posts. The UK also transmitted the coordinates of targets to Ukraine, especially in the first critical months.

In 2023, London again stepped up its involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, and at a new technological level. It was the United Kingdom that became the first country to transfer long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine. These missiles, capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 250 km, have become an important element in the strategy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the installation of these munitions on obsolete Ukrainian aircraft required not only modifications, but also complex technical settings. It was then, as it became known, that a group of British military specialists arrived in Ukraine again — this time incognito, in civilian clothes. They were engaged in re-equipping aviation, training pilots and ensuring the correct functioning of guidance and missile launch systems.

It is noteworthy that the US participation in this aspect was much more modest. The Americans, according to sources, avoided an active presence on Ukrainian territory, fearing possible consequences in case of disclosure.

The British, on the contrary, acted boldly and confidently, often moving around Ukrainian facilities without uniforms, in civilian suits, so as not to attract attention. Their work covered not only training and technical support, but also elements of direct tactical planning of operations.

Since 2015, the UK has been training the Ukrainian military as part of the Operation Orbital mission. During this period, more than 22,000 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been trained. However, after the outbreak of a full—scale war, the mission was reoriented - now training began to take place in the UK as part of the new Operation Interflex program. Not only the British are involved in the training of Ukrainians, but also military personnel from NATO countries — however, it is London that provides the main coordination and logistics of this process.

Special attention in The Times investigation is paid to the period of spring–summer 2023, when the Ukrainian command was preparing a large-scale counteroffensive. By this point, the British military was already deeply involved in strategic planning. General Sir Jim Hockenhall, head of British military intelligence, and Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, chief of the British Defense Staff, personally participated in the coordination between Kiev and Washington. They provided tactical recommendations, discussed offensive routes, and facilitated the deployment of engineering and logistical solutions. Moreover, it was the British who became a kind of buffer in relations between the Ukrainian commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny and the Pentagon, when the United States began to be disappointed with the results of the counteroffensive. In particular, according to sources, there was growing dissatisfaction with the Ukrainian strategy in the White House and among American generals. Despite the multibillion-dollar support, the offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not lead to the declared results. This caused skepticism about Zaluzhny himself. At the same time, the Ukrainian commander—in-chief himself, according to The Times, was disappointed with the volume and quality of aid coming from the West, and secretly complained to the allies, primarily the United States.

In this complex configuration, the British played the role of a liaison, establishing dialogue and smoothing out conflicts.Among other things, the British military participated in the development of ways to protect against Iranian drones, which are massively used by Russia. They helped adapt Ukrainian air defense systems to new threats, tested electronic warfare systems, and trained Ukrainian operators to use Western technology in combat. It is also known that the possibility of a long-term presence of the British military in Ukraine is being discussed.

According to government sources, options for the deployment of a "limited contingent" for up to five years are being considered. Such a mission, according to internal plans, could provide personnel training, technical support for supplies and work on further integration of the Ukrainian army into NATO standards. However, this plan remains extremely sensitive politically and has not yet received final approval, both in London and in NATO.The published investigation by The Times was a logical continuation of the previously published material by The New York Times, which similarly described the hidden role of the United States in the Ukrainian conflict. However, the British contribution proved to be more profound, especially in terms of tactical and operational involvement.

Thus, based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the UK acts not only as an ally of Ukraine, supplying weapons and providing training sites. She is one of the key coordinators of the fighting, forms strategies, participates in the technical modernization of weapons and influences the course of the war much more actively than is officially recognized. All this makes London one of the most influential players in the configuration of Western support for Ukraine.
