In northern Syria, the US military conducted a rare ground operation, during which they eliminated a high-ranking financier of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the Pentagon Central Command said. This is the second such operation in less than a month.
According to an official statement, US special forces successfully neutralized the militant on Tuesday, whose name was not disclosed. This terrorist was preparing a series of attacks both in Syria and Iraq, and also maintained contacts with other ISIS cells in the region.
The Central Command did not disclose the details of the operation, but it is known that special forces ground raids usually involve support helicopters, attack aircraft and drones. Such operations are more risky than airstrikes, as they require the direct presence of troops near the target, often in densely populated areas.
The advantage of ground raids is the ability to obtain important intelligence information, including documents, data from data carriers and terrorist communications, which greatly facilitates the planning of subsequent anti-terrorist operations.
Such actions demonstrate the determination of the United States to continue the fight against ISIS, despite the difficulties and threats in the region, as well as the desire to prevent new terrorist attacks in advance.
