New concept image reveals details of the U.S. Navy's secret F/A-XX fighter jet

The secrecy surrounding the sixth-generation F/A—XX fighter program for the US Navy has eased slightly after one of the key participants in the competition, Northrop Grumman, published a new conceptual image of its version of a carrier—based combat aircraft. The rendering, posted on the company's official website in the section dedicated to naval aviation, shows the front of the future fighter jet against the background of an aircraft carrier deck.

Although the image does not show the wings, tail unit or the full appearance of the aircraft, it provides important design clues: a pointed nose, characteristic fuselage lines, as well as elements indicating low radar visibility (stealth technology) are noticeable. The locations of sensors and antennas are also visible, which indicates a high degree of integration of sensors and communication systems.

Unlike the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program The US Air Force, focused on gaining air superiority, the F/A-XX is being developed taking into account the specifics of naval operations. Its main tasks are strikes against ground and surface targets, fleet support, and operations in remote theaters of war, especially in the Pacific region.

China's growing naval power and the geographical features of the Pacific Ocean require the new fighters to have increased flight range, greater autonomy and the ability to operate as part of a network-centric combat system, including interaction with unmanned loyal wingmen (CCA) and aircraft carrier groups.

Northrop Grumman, Boeing and Lockheed Martin are involved in developing concepts for the F/A-XX. The U.S. Navy has not yet disclosed the full requirements, but it is clear that the sixth—generation fighter will be the centerpiece of a future carrier air group - combining high stealth, advanced electronics, artificial intelligence, and likely partial or full autonomy.

Anduril builds smart submarines in Australia: a new era of autonomous defense in the Pacific Ocean

The American company Anduril Industries, known for its breakthrough military technologies, has made a big step in the Pacific region — together with the Royal Australian Navy, it has created a prototype autonomous submarine in Sydney. This is no longer just a concept: we are talking about real production, launched at a local base, in order to enhance security in the Pacific Ocean. The boats, which Anduril calls "ultra—large autonomous underwater vehicles," should become a new cornerstone in surveillance and defense against growing activity in the region - especially amid tensions with China.

What is particularly impressive is that Anduril recently raised 2 billion US dollars at a valuation of 30.5 billion US dollars (almost 51.6 billion Australian dollars). This money will be used to scale production and develop artificial intelligence that will control these submarines without constant human involvement. They will be able to stay underwater for months, tracking targets, transmitting real—time data and interacting with other systems, from drones to ships and satellites.

The project is part of the AUKUS strategy, where Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom join forces to strengthen defense. But Anduril is moving ahead: without waiting for cumbersome government programs, the company acts quickly, technologically and ambitiously. And now the Pacific Ocean gets a new, "smart" line of defense — without a crew, but with powerful AI on board.

How the United States learns to fight across the Pacific Ocean: new radio stations on tankers and transports

As part of the large-scale Mobility Guardian 2025 exercise, the US Air Force is testing how best to link its cargo and refueling aircraft to each other in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. What for? So that in a real conflict, especially with China, they can work as a single network, and not as separate ships that barely understand each other.

The problem is as old as the world: different planes have different communication systems and software, and they just don't "talk" directly. To transmit data, it is often necessary to climb through satellites or ground centers. And in combat, especially in the Pacific Ocean, where the distances are huge and the enemy can jam signals, it's deadly.

So they're learning in a new way now. New communication equipment is being installed on board transporters like the C-17 and C-130J, as well as on the KC-135 and KC-46 tankers, which allows aircraft to exchange data directly, without unnecessary intermediaries. It's like giving all the members of one big team a single messenger that works even in the wilderness.

The Mobility Guardian exercise is the main event for the USAF transport aviation, held every two years. And now they are not just working out how to quickly deliver soldiers or fuel. Now they learn to coordinate on the go, in real time, over distances of thousands of kilometers — from the west coast of the United States to the most remote islands.

The goal is to transform the fleet of transporters and tankers from a set of separate vehicles into a single, intelligent and living organism capable of surviving and operating even if the satellites are turned off and enemy missiles are flying from all sides.

Because in the future war in the Pacific, the one who transmits information faster and smarter will win. And the United States clearly does not want to lose in this.

The USS Connecticut submarine will return to service in 2026 after a severe accident in the ocean

In 2021, the American nuclear submarine USS Connecticut (SSN-22) from the elite Seawolf class crashed into an unknown seamount somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. As a result of the accident, the boat was seriously damaged, especially in the bow, but, fortunately, the nuclear installation remained intact.

After the incident, she was sent for long—term repairs, and now it has become known that the submarine is scheduled to return to service in 2026. This is an important task for the US Navy, because they have only three such boats, and each is a real technical masterpiece.

At the time of the accident, the boat was seriously damaged — it literally had no nose cone, and part of the hull was also damaged. All this happened because the crew did not notice the danger on the map — the mountain was not marked on the navigation systems. The result is a hard blow and serious consequences.

As a result of the investigation, part of the team was fired, including the boat commander, who was simply stripped of his position. It was recognized that not only navigation errors were to blame, but also general negligence in management.

Now specialists are actively working on the restoration of the submarine. The plans are not only to repair, but also to modernize its systems in order to avoid such problems in the future and increase combat capabilities.

Given that Seawolf is one of the most technologically advanced classes of submarines in the world, its return will greatly strengthen the US position in the submarine component of the fleet. The loss of even one such boat is a serious blow to strategic capabilities.

The incident with the USS Connecticut has become an important lesson for the US Navy. Now they are working hard on discipline, crew training and monitoring the implementation of all procedures. The goal is to prevent this from happening again.

In general, although the boat has suffered a serious blow, its recovery is on schedule, and in a couple of years it will be back on combat duty.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense has published a map of the positions of Chinese aircraft carriers, highlighting the unusual duration of their operations

On Tuesday evening, the Japanese Defense Ministry for the first time released a detailed map showing the positions of Chinese aircraft carriers from May 25 to Monday. This is a rare case when the Japanese department discloses the movements of foreign warships, which underscores Tokyo's concern about the unusually long and active operations of the Chinese navy in the region.

Since May, China has been demonstrating increased military activity in East Asia. For the first time, two Chinese aircraft carriers, the Shandong and Liaoning, are operating simultaneously in the Pacific Ocean. The Shandong conducted take-off and landing operations in the exclusive economic zone of Japan in the area of the second island chain connecting the Japanese islands of Ogasawara and the American island of Guam. Liaoning, in turn, crossed this second island chain for the first time and operated off the coast of Minamitorishima Island.

The Japanese Defense Ministry and the government have expressed concern about such actions, viewing them as a show of force and a warning to the United States and its allies. Japan has officially appealed to China not to turn its naval activities into a threat to the country's security. In response, Chinese representatives stated that the operations were routine training and were not directed against specific States.

The activity of Chinese aircraft carriers indicates Beijing's desire to expand its military capabilities beyond coastal waters and strengthen control over strategic sea routes in the Pacific Ocean. Japan, in turn, is increasing radar surveillance and diplomatic pressure to curb the growth of Chinese influence in the region.

Chinese aircraft carrier CNS Liaoning spotted off the coast of Taiwan and the Philippines

Satellite image

Satellite images show the passage of the Chinese aircraft carrier CNS Liaoning in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of the Philippines and Taiwan, key allies and partners of the United States in the region. Taiwan's Ministry of Defense has confirmed to local media that the aircraft carrier is located off the southeast coast of the island.

This relocation of the Chinese aircraft carrier is causing concern in the region, given the tensions between China and Taiwan, as well as the strategic importance of the Philippines as a partner of the United States. CNS Liaoning is China's first aircraft carrier to actively participate in demonstrating naval power and conducting exercises near disputed territories.

The presence of an aircraft carrier in the area indicates China's continued activity in expanding its influence in the South China and East China Seas. It also serves as a signal to the US allies about the need to maintain a high level of readiness and cooperation in the field of security.

In response to China's actions, Taiwan and the Philippines are strengthening their measures to monitor and secure their maritime borders, while the United States continues to support its regional partners as part of a deterrence strategy.

Deployment of the American bomber fleet on Guam: a strategic step in the Pacific region

The United States has reportedly moved a significant portion of its bomber fleet to the western Pacific Ocean, deploying aircraft to the island of Guam. This step is an important strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the US military presence in the region and increasing the ability to project force in the face of growing geopolitical tensions.

Guam, located in the western Pacific Ocean, is a key military hub and a springboard for the American armed forces. Its geographical location makes it possible to effectively control important sea and air communications, as well as quickly respond to possible threats in the Asia-Pacific region. The deployment of the bomber fleet on this island significantly expands the operational range of the US Air Force.

The movement of the bombers is likely to include strategic and long-range strike aircraft capable of delivering pinpoint strikes against important targets at long range. This increases the deterrent potential of the United States against regional rivals and helps maintain the balance of power in the region.

In addition, the increased military presence in Guam serves as a signal to US allies and partners about Washington's commitment to ensuring security and stability in the Pacific region. It also contributes to strengthening multilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security.

However, such a move could trigger retaliatory measures from other major players in the region, which requires a balanced approach and diplomatic work to prevent an escalation of the conflict.

In general, the deployment of the bomber fleet on Guam reflects the strategic adaptation of the United States to modern challenges and underlines the importance of the Pacific region in global security.

The U.S. Air Force begins construction of new over-the-horizon radars in Oregon to detect missile threats

The US Air Force has announced the start of a project to build the first two over-the-horizon radars in the state of Oregon. These radars, capable of detecting approaching missile threats at a distance of up to 4,000 nautical miles, will become an important element of the country's missile defense system.

In a notice published in the Federal Register last week, the Air Force announced the launch of an environmental audit for two regions of Oregon where it plans to deploy radar installations. This process will take about two years and will be a key stage before the start of the active construction phase.

Over-the-horizon radars are an advanced technology that makes it possible to track objects beyond the line of sight using the reflection of radio waves from the ionosphere. Due to their unique ability to detect threats at great distances, these systems play a key role in ensuring the security of the state from potential missile attacks.

The choice of Oregon for radar deployment is due to its geographical location, which makes it possible to control the airspace over the Pacific Ocean as effectively as possible. However, the implementation of the project requires a thorough environmental impact analysis, including an assessment of the impact on the local flora, fauna and population.

The development and implementation of over-the-horizon radars underscore the United States' commitment to maintaining technological leadership in the field of defense. The successful implementation of the Oregon project will be an important step towards creating a more reliable early warning system for missile threats.
