Interception of the Russian Il-20 over the Baltic Sea
NATO has scrambled two German Eurofighter fighter jets of the German Air Force to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft. The Russian plane was in the airspace over the Baltic Sea with the transponder turned off and without presenting a flight plan, which caused concern among the alliance.
Two Eurofighters, lifted from a German airbase, performed the task of identifying and escorting the Russian aircraft, providing control and monitoring of the situation in the region. These actions are part of NATO's measures to maintain airspace security in the high-tension zone.
The incident reflects the ongoing tensions between NATO and Russia in the airspace of the Baltic region. Such interceptions and monitoring of aircraft are often carried out to prevent unforeseen incidents and maintain a balance of power.
