The Royal Navy is seeking fresh ideas from industry for the next phase of its Autonomous Collaborative Platforms (ACP) program. The goal is to create a new generation of drones that can truly work in a team with manned fighter jets, whether they are fourth—, fifth-, or even sixth-generation models. These unmanned systems should be able to operate synchronously, enhancing the capabilities of their manned "partners". Special attention is being paid to the possibility of working with aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy, which means the need to develop drones capable of taking off and landing from the deck of an aircraft carrier. The Ministry of Defense wants to use the knowledge and experience of industry to properly shape the development of these unmanned systems. It is expected that such platforms will have a high degree of autonomy and will be able to perform complex tasks, including electronic warfare.

Norway to deploy F-35A fighter jets in Poland to enhance regional security and support Ukraine

F-35A Lightning II 

On June 30, 2025, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the decision to deploy its Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II fighter jets in Poland. This step is part of efforts to strengthen collective security in the region and support Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.

The fighters will be based in the area of Rzeszow airport, an important logistics hub through which a significant part of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine is carried out. In addition to protecting the airspace around Rzeszow, the Norwegian F-35A will participate in ensuring the security of the entire Polish airspace, which is a key element of the integrated NATO air and missile defense system.

Norwegian Defense Minister Ture O. Sandvik stressed that the deployment of fighter jets demonstrates Norway's firm commitment to collective defense obligations within the framework of NATO and contributes to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of necessary assistance to Ukraine. This step is also aimed at deterring possible aggression and increasing security in Eastern Europe.

It is planned that the first aircraft will arrive in Poland in the fall of 2025, after which their integration into regional air defense systems and joint exercises with NATO allies will begin. The deployment of the F-35A in Poland will be an important element of strengthening the alliance's defense capabilities on the eastern flank and will increase the operational readiness of forces to respond to any threats.

Possible sabotage on the Dutch railway network during the NATO summit

On Tuesday, Dutch authorities were investigating possible sabotage on the railway network after a power outage at the country's main airport restricted train traffic at a time when a two-day summit of NATO leaders was opening in the Netherlands.

Acting Justice Minister David van Wil told a NATO Public Forum that investigators are considering the possibility of deliberately setting fire to about 30 railway cables.

In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the launch of Operation True Promise 3, during which rocket attacks were launched against Israel.

Iran is also threatening to attack French, British and US military installations in the Middle East, which increases the risks of an expansion of the conflict. In this regard, the United Kingdom and the United States are strengthening their military presence in the region, deploying additional forces and air defense systems to protect their bases and allies.

Azerbaijan signs largest deal worth 4.2 billion dollars for the supply of 40 JF-17 Block III fighter jets from Pakistan and China

The JF-17 Block III belongs to the 4.5 generation and is equipped with modern technologies, including the KLJ-7A radar with a target detection range of up to 170 km and PL-15E air-to-air missiles with a range of up to 180 km. The fighter has a range of about 1,200 km and is able to effectively control the airspace of the region.

For Azerbaijan, this deal means a significant strengthening of the air force, reducing dependence on the Russian MiG-29 and Su-25, as well as expanding capabilities through integration with Turkish weapons systems. At the same time, the partnership with Pakistan and China makes it possible to circumvent the political restrictions of Western countries.

The deal includes not only the supply of aircraft, but also ammunition, pilot training, technical support and infrastructure elements, which demonstrates a comprehensive approach to the modernization of the Azerbaijani Air Force.

Thus, the acquisition of the JF-17 Block III becomes an important strategic step for Azerbaijan, strengthening its defense potential and influencing the balance of power in the South Caucasus.
