Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the restructuring of the U.S. Army

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the army to restructure itself to create a "more compact" force. The April 30 memorandum, titled "Army Transformation and Procurement Reform," calls for radical changes in the service, including the unification of commands, the cancellation of several programs, and the allocation of additional resources to use and counter drones. Some of the measures outlined, such as the expansion of drones and anti-drone systems into maneuverable units and an increase in electronic warfare capabilities, build on programs already underway. Others are expanding broader military objectives, including deploying an army in the Indo-Pacific region to counter China.
