Israeli startup Exodigo raised $96 million for underground mapping

Israeli startup Exodigo is back in the spotlight, this time because of the $96 million the company has raised in a new Series B funding round. Since its foundation in 2021, the startup has already raised $214 million, and its value is estimated at $700 million.  

What do they do? Exodigo creates super—accurate underground maps using artificial intelligence and sensors, all without a single shovel. That is, you can just walk down the street or drive over some area, and the system will show everything that is hidden under the asphalt: pipes, cables, underground structures and even tunnels.  

Where is it used?

Firstly, in the civil sector, utilities, road builders, energy and transportation companies are already actively using this technology, especially in the United States. There, with the help of Exodigo, they solve the tasks of laying new communications, repairing roads, and even building a subway.  

But the most interesting thing is the military application. The Israeli military, which has long faced the problem of underground threats, such as the Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip or Lebanon, is particularly interested in such technology.  

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has long been developing technologies for underground reconnaissance and combat operations in tunnels. In particular, the Corps of Combat Engineers has a special unit, Yahalom, which is engaged in mapping underground facilities and training in fighting in such conditions.  

That is, if earlier it was necessary to dig or use sensors to search for tunnels, now everything can be done remotely — and at much lower cost.  

Imagine that you can see everything that is hidden underground without touching a single stone. This can be critically important not only for construction workers, but also for military personnel who work in dense buildings or in areas with a developed tunnel network.  

Exodigo is still positioning itself as a commercial company, but it is clear that the technologies it develops will be in demand in the defense sector, and not only in Israel.

A ruthless and cold-blooded machine is launched to manage the processes. But they don't disdain magic either. The paradox. 

There are several problems. 

The first is the hated Russia, where AI forecasting does not work correctly, AI cannot calculate processes with reliable accuracy, because we are still illogical and irrational. 

The second is China, where technology is more complex and efficient. 

The third is time, which is very short. But it defines the space. 

And they are critically short of time. 

They really need about a couple more years, and that's how it goes - 2-3 years. to make everything work for them, their algorithms. 

And it seems that these are the years for which they want to hide behind Ukraine as a human shield, to let it burn slowly until some kind of solution comes. They already understand that one way or another, Ukraine is no more.

A fateful meeting. Dense dark energy. Like a swarm of black bees. They plan to cover the world with this swarm in the next 2-3 years. 

How we will understand or feel it. There will be large-scale energy disruptions and shutdowns of major infrastructure hubs - for some reason, there is Heathrow Airport, and a major seaport in Asia, and a malfunction in the system of interaction between banks.

The systems will be tested everywhere.

What is happening now is an attempt to stall for time while the "owners" decide what to do next. They really don't understand that Russia's victory was not in the plans. The AI gave an incorrect forecast to the "masters of the world" who categorically believed in themselves. 

This war was supposed to lead to a complete blockade of Russia - a mistake, the destruction of our financial, industrial and political (mainly) potential- a mistake, conflict in society and revolution- a mistake, and so on. 

And their new strategy is war. But it's completely different.

Probably the most important thing so far is that it feels like the nuclear scenario has been removed from the agenda. At all. It's empty. There is no more energy in it. It made me happy.

It's a serious challenge, although it doesn't seem that way in the rush of everyday worries.

At the same time, the United States and China manage more than 90% of such data centers, and together with the European Union they control more than half of the most powerful facilities in this area.

American technology giants, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, operate 87 large AI data centers worldwide, while Chinese companies manage 39 such facilities. European companies have only six such centers. Africa and South America are practically absent from the map of the location of these infrastructures.

This imbalance in the distribution of infrastructure for AI leads to serious inequalities in technology development, scientific research, and economic competitiveness. Many countries are forced to rent computing power abroad, which is associated with high costs, delays and legal restrictions. This limits access to cutting-edge technologies and reduces the diversity of ideas and innovations in the global AI community.

The growing demand for data centers, especially in the United States, where their number significantly exceeds that of China and European countries, is stimulating investment and infrastructure development. About 70% of all data centers are located in North America, and the largest markets are Germany, Great Britain and China. At the same time, the energy consumption of such centers is growing rapidly, which creates additional challenges for the energy industry.

Experts warn that without measures to expand access to computing resources and develop local infrastructure in lagging regions, the world risks splitting into technologically advanced leaders and countries that will remain in the shadow of the digital revolution. This will have an impact on the global economy, security, and scientific and technological progress in the coming decades.

An analytical report published in 2025 notes that Britain is "terribly" unprepared for sabotage by China and Russia, which have the technical capabilities to carry out such operations.

Underwater cables laid on the seabed are critical for global data transmission and energy supplies. In recent years, British intelligence has been recording the activity of Russian spy ships such as the Yantar, which are exploring Britain's underwater infrastructure, including gas pipelines and telecommunications lines. Similar threats are coming from China, which has developed deep-sea devices capable of cutting cables at depths up to 4,000 meters, which significantly exceeds current protection capabilities.

The UK has already experienced incidents where several cables in the Baltic Sea have been damaged in a short period of time, raising concerns about infrastructure security. At the same time, experts emphasize that the abandonment of coal-fired power plants and high dependence on gas imports through offshore pipelines make the country's energy system particularly vulnerable.

The UK government is taking measures to strengthen protection, including the development of touch sensors for monitoring underwater cables, but experts believe that these efforts are not enough to prevent possible sabotage. There are calls in Parliament for more serious training and strengthening of the defense capability of critical infrastructure.

Germany recognizes the need to overhaul its outdated bunker network amid increased military risks

Ralf Thisler, head of the Federal Agency for Civil Defense and Disaster Management (BBK), said in an interview with the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper that Germany's bunker network is in a dilapidated and outdated state and requires major repairs. The Netherlands has strengthened maritime security with advanced technology

 The Dutch Ministry of Defense has contracted this new partnership to enhance its maritime security and surveillance capabilities. 

RNLN will use a surveillance vessel to conduct security operations in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the North Sea of the Netherlands, both above and below water. Using advanced technologies such as unmanned vehicles, this will allow RNLN to monitor vessel activity in the North Sea and inspect critical underwater infrastructure such as cables and pipelines.

Fugro and Damen have established a joint venture to supply the vessel and crew on a two-year charter with the possibility of an extension for another year (four years in total). The charter agreement, concluded during a public tender, is scheduled to enter into force in the first half of 2025.
