Northrop Grumman Signs Contract with the US Department of Defense to Develop Autonomous Underwater Systems

In the latest contract announcement, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. Headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland, has awarded a cost- and fixed-fee contract to promote the "Innovative Naval Prototype Autonomous Underwater Operation of a Full Range of Underwater Warfare" initiative.

The program, which is led by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), aims to conduct advanced research and development focused on autonomous underwater capabilities.According to the announcement, the contract specifically covers technology research., designed to enhance the Navy's ability to perceive and respond to underwater threats autonomously. This research includes the development of complex autonomous systems capable of conducting underwater exploration, detection and operation.
